This four-piece band made up of young Englishmen who look like college-boys have
what it takes to surprise you! First of all it is thanks to the acquisition of a
strange and rare instrument from our land that the band was initially formed.
The "hang" (meaning "hand" in Bernese dialect") resembles an upside-down wok but
it actually a metallic percussion instrument invented in 2000 by two
Swiss-germans after over 25 years of research. It's original sound and its
rarity on the market, have made it a very intriguing object.
Portico Quartet is interested in developing its music in unique and unusual
venues such as an open-air stage up in the mountains, in galleries and churches.
They describe their particular sound as "post-jazz indie-rock", for what sets
them apart is their innovative telluric, atmospheric jazz.
Peter Gabriel spotted their talent and immediately signed them on his label Real
World. What is truly incredible is that Portico Quartet's music has a familiar,
relaxing feel to it with African tones here and there, and yet at the same time
it sounds completely new, thanks to the "hang", this retro-innovative
percussion. Mind-blowing, futuristic world music, a highlight that will put you
in a trance!

formΘ. Le hang (" la main " en dialecte bernois) ressemble Θtrangement α un wok
ou α une cloche α fromage, mais est un instrument mΘtallique de percussion mis
au point en 2000 aprΦs plus d'un quart de siΦcle de recherche par deux
Suisse-allemands, dont l'originalitΘ du son mais surtout la raretΘ des
exemplaires sur le marchΘ ont tout de suite suscitΘ l'intΘrΩt des curieux de
partout.
Forts de cette curiositΘ et de ce prΘcieux achat, Portico Quartet cherche α
dΘvelopper sa musique en se produisant dans des lieux uniques et insolites tels
que des lieux α ciel ouvert sur une scΦne extΘrieure en haute-montagne ou alors
dans des galeries et des Θglises. Leur son est particulier et ils dΘcrivent leur
musique comme du " indie-rock post-jazz ", car ce qui fait leur diffΘrence c'est

Quartett stetig ihre Musik weiterzuentwickeln, indem sie an einzigartigen und

Musik von Portico Quartett ist, dass sie Vertrautes mit afrikanischen KlΣngen
vermischen, ein entspannendes Universum und trotzdem klingt es wie etwas total
