█░ Montreal mates, the disc often suggests a mutated clone of ░█
█░ that band's classic Gay Parade album, lacking its conceptual ░█
█░ density (at least superficially) but achieving a similar ░█
█░ balance between childlike wonderment and skewed pop ░█
█░ brilliance that's both defiantly retro and proudly ░█
█░ postmodern. Gonzales' fractured melodies benefit enormously ░█
█░ from the collaborative model: Marshmallow Coasting thrives ░█
█░ on the kinds of bright harmonies and complex arrangements ░█
█░ absent from his earlier solo efforts, and although it's ░█
█░ something of a self-inflicted knock against the ░█
█░ incestuousness of the Elephant 6 aesthetic that Gonzales ░█
█░ sounds exactly like Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes on tracks ░█
█░ like 'Lonliest (sic) Heart in Texas' -- maybe it is Barnes, ░█
█░ who knows? -- its also a tribute to the collective's unique ░█
