Elegiac electronic forest folk from the magnificently
monikered Jarse aka Jari Suominen, known for his work with
Shogun Kunitoki and Kiila. 'Alas' plays through as one
track (although it was split over two sides on the
original 7"), sweeping us from lightly dissonant 8-bit C64
melodies to more sumptuous orchestration of layered
guitars, lapping rhythms and arresting vocal drops
interspersed with stunning synth flourishes. It's a
fragile balance of Fonal's more psychedelic tendencies and
their instinctive folksy loveliness which we think fans of
Forest Swords, Paavoharju or even Keith Fullerton Whitman
will greatly appreciate. Tip!
