       ▓█ ░█    Osamu Kitajima's 14th album, "Beyond the          █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Circle," is a departure even for the              █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    adventurous Japanese-born instrumental            █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    composer. As the title suggests, Kitajima         █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    ventures beyond his previous pioneering           █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    explorations of ambient sound and textures on     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    this release for the new Higher Octave Music      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    custom label, Cyber Octave.                       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█                                                      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    This time, the pulse of synthesized dance         █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    rhythms form the foundation for his hauntingly    █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    melodic keyboard and guitar soundscapes,          █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    balanced by intricate interweaving of ancient     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    traditional Japanese instruments and singing.     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█                                                      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    A pioneer in blending the sounds of Eastern       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    and Western cultures, Kitajima feels              █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    comfortable in either world, but most at home     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    in a synthesis of the two. "I do think about      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    cultural blendings," Kitajima says. "It's in      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    my blood. I'm making brand new music out of my    █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    roots. I try to preserve that sound and spirit    █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    while making the best music for today."           █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Growing up near Tokyo, Kitajima's first           █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    musical love was American pop and rock, from      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Elvis to The Ventures. His college rock band,     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    The Launchers, became one of the most             █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    successful groups in Japan before he left to      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    develop the new sounds he was hearing in his      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    head - an East/West fusion full of surprises.     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    By the time his solo debut album, "Benzaiten,"    █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    became an underground radio hit on the West       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Coast in the mid-1970s, Kitajima had moved to     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    The United States.                                █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█                                                      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Since then, he has honed to perfection his        █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    influential style of the latest electronic        █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    sounds with the most ancient of music. His        █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    award winning sound has been called upon to       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    add exotic touches to recordings by musicians     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    from The Crusaders to Ottmar Liebert to Ry        █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Cooder, and many sound tracks including           █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    "Sharky's Machine" and "Shogun."                  █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█                                                      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    The upbeat music of "Beyond the Circle" was       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    composed with producer and composer               █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Christopher Mancinelli. Kitajima travelled to     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Tokyo to record one of his favorite singers,      █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Nanako Mikado, doing traditional Geisha songs     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    as well as the expressive playing of Shakuachi    █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    flute master, Masakazu Yoshizawa. He wove         █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    their performances directly into his keyboard     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    music, not as lead or as solo parts, but as       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    equal instruments integrated into each            █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    composition.                                      █░ █▓

       ▓█ ░█    As the rest of the world catches on to his        █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    innovations, he is the first to proclaim that     █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    he never tried to create any style, he just       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    plays music intuitively, from his innermost       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    feelings. "Beyond the Circle" is an upbeat        █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    continuation of his musical exploration. To       █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    Kitajima, "Beyond the Circle" is just as          █░ █▓
       ▓█ ░█    spiritual as his quieter past works, "it just     █░ █▓
