If there's one thing the United Kingdom has been doing right lately, it's
churning out a new breed of impressive sounding Hardcore. From bands like
Throats to Dead Swans, and everything in between, it seems as though those
limey Brits have finally found their anger. And Departures channels it well.
Very Well.
On "When Losing Everything Is Everything You Wanted", Departures seem to
seamlessly blend passion, anger, and disdain within every song. The listener
can find themselves going from fist pounding angst to despair within a few
heartbeats. I think this is mostly due to the American Nightmare-esque vocals
that, at times, seem beyond desperation. Beyond hope. Incorporate driving
bass lines and churning guitars and you can't go wrong. Is that saying
Departures is a by-the-book hardcore band? Not at all. They just seem to have
their finger on the pulse of this genre.
