'The Power' is the third chapter in Jeff's "saga" started with 'The Sleeper
Wakes' and 'The Occurrence'. It's accompanied by a fairly pulpy, Philip K
Dick-esque Sci-Fi short story supposing themes of time, space travel and
technology in the CD insert, but the sonic aesthetic is unmistakably Millsian.
Like he does with three turntables in the live arena, Jeff weaves engrossing,
dramatic, abstract narratives with his banks of synths and trusted 909, taking
us further with intricate articulations of percussive patterning, timbre and
synthesized harmonics than almost any novel you care to imagine. If you've been
following his album releases, this one is pretty much unmissable. If you're new
to the world of Mills albums, there's few better places to engage with his
mysterious might.
