ôPacingö is the second album by Oxford born singer-songwriter Richard Walters.
This album follows WaltersÆ critically acclaimed debut album æThe AnimalÆ which
was released in 2009. However in æPacingÆ we can hear a departure from the
softer acoustic tones of WaltersÆ first album to a sound that is richer and more
self-assured. æPacingÆ was co-written by Bernard Butler who has worked with many
talented artists such as Duffy, Fyfe Dangerfield and The Libertines. The
collaboration with Butler has produced a stunning album by Walters that
showcases emotional vocal performances and a variety of narrative songs.
ôNights Endö û a dreamy composition complete with gentle string accompaniment is
a highlight. æBreatheÆ and æEnd Of the WorldÆ hear Walters hit notes that would
give Thom Yorke a run for his money. Meanwhile, title track æPacingÆ portrays
the hopelessness of depression; complete with hazy chords and smooth vocals this
song provokes intrigue and mystery to WaltersÆ back-story. However the stand out
track of this album must be Æ14 daysÆ a heartbreaking and emotional tale of a
couple on the verge of a breakup yet trying to keep it together until their
holiday is over- it is realistic, relatable and moving much like the overall
effect of this album.
