▐███▌ ▐███▌
▐███▌ Illaiyaraaja, Illayaraja, Ilayaraaja, ▐███▌
▐███▌ Isaignani, The Maestro... The ▐███▌
▐███▌ undeniable prince of Kollywood ▐███▌
▐███▌ cinema, India's second largest film ▐███▌
▐███▌ industry, Illaiyaraaja is more than ▐███▌
▐███▌ equal to his forward thinking ▐███▌
▐███▌ contemporaries in Bollywood and ▐███▌
▐███▌ Lollywood in both productivity and ▐███▌
▐███▌ experimentation! However, once you ▐███▌
▐███▌ have exhausted all possible leads ▐███▌
▐███▌ using his various names (and the ▐███▌
▐███▌ numerous misspellings) you're faced ▐███▌
▐███▌ with the unenviable task of sitting ▐███▌
▐███▌ through a 34-year career spanning ▐███▌
▐███▌ more than 900 films scores in ▐███▌
▐███▌ Tamil,Hindi,Telugu,Malayalam & ▐███▌
▐███▌ Kannada in order to unearth some of ▐███▌
▐███▌ the heaviest dancefloor friendly ▐███▌
▐███▌ electronic pop to ever emerge from ▐███▌
▐███▌ Southern India. Impossible to ▐███▌
▐███▌ pigeonhole and characterised by his ▐███▌
▐███▌ own indefinable style the man is a ▐███▌
▐███▌ genre in his own right! At the height ▐███▌
▐███▌ of his career the industrious ▐███▌
▐███▌ Illaiyaraaja was averaging a 50 a ▐███▌
▐███▌ year output of full-lenght scores for ▐███▌
▐███▌ the Kollywood industry often bringing ▐███▌
▐███▌ A-list charme to B-grade features ▐███▌
▐███▌ with little to no budget. His ability ▐███▌
▐███▌ to recycle musical elements stands as ▐███▌
▐███▌ an early form of sampling. Sadly the ▐███▌
▐███▌ recycling of other studio stock, such ▐███▌
▐███▌ as mastertapes ,resulted in many ▐███▌
▐███▌ original recordings being wiped after ▐███▌
▐███▌ the songs were mastered to vinyl for ▐███▌
▐███▌ his own self-funded record labels. ▐███▌
▐███▌ Other songs were recorded straight to ▐███▌
▐███▌ poorer quality film stock and then ▐███▌
▐███▌ mastered for commercial release on ▐███▌
▐███▌ vinyl and compact cassette. The songs ▐███▌
▐███▌ on this ompilation were researched ▐███▌
▐███▌ form original, and scarce 45 singles ▐███▌
▐███▌ and EPs, some of the rarest items in ▐███▌
▐███▌ the Ilaiyaaraja discography. Where ▐███▌
▐███▌ available we have upgraded the source ▐███▌
▐███▌ material from a number of the above ▐███▌
