Jef Neve was born in Turnhout (Belgium) on March 8th, 1977.
During high school he studies Latin and Modern Languages at the
Sint-Aloyssiuscollege situated in Geel (Belgium). In the
meantime he also took piano classes given by Hugo Lefever at
the municipal music academy of Geel. He completed his musical
education at the Lemmensinstituut in Louvain where he was
taught classes by Jan Vermeulen, Ron Van Rossem, DrΘ
Pallemaerts, Frank Vaganee, Bert Joris, Stefaan Celen, Peter
Hertmans, Werner Van Mechelen, Christel Kessels and Kurt
Bikkembergs. He also took master classes given by Jozef De
Beenhouwer, Guy de Mey, Toots Thielemans, Lew Tabackin, Brad
Mehldau,...
In 2000 Jef graduated as Master in Music specialization Jazz
and as Master in Music specialization Piano, both with great
distinction. In 2001 he specialized in Chamber Music and he was
rewarded 'cum laude'.
For the moment Jef himself teaches at the SAMWD (the Municipal
Academy for Mucic and Word) in Lier (Belgium).
Next to his musical education, Jef started to play in local
bands at the age of fourteen. During that period he composed a
wide variety of pieces for the most divergent strengths (from
piano solo pieces to real symphonic pieces). From the age of
seventeen to twenty he played with the popular funk band Mr.
Zebedee, immediately his first contact with jazz and blues.
As freelance pianist Jef also participated in various jazz
bands, classic formations, show orchestras, pop bands, theatre
productions, studio sessions, i.e. from Get Ready (a Blgian
boys band) to solo in the Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra
(conducted by Michel Tilkin). As jazz musician he worked with
DrΘ Pallemaerts, Lindsey Horner, Peter Hertmans, Peer
Bayerlein, Yves Peeters, Ben Sluys, Chantal Kashalla, Chantal
Welly, Yvonne Walter, Lode Mertens, Chris Mentens,...
Jef Neve is not only a pianist, he also composes for classic
strengths as for his very own piano trio with violin and cello.
He arranges for big band and composes for his jazz trio, and
finally as a studio technician Jef works in his very own demo
studio to shape his many artistic projects. In 2003 he released
his first album æBlue SagaÆ (Contour 002). This record has been
overwhelmed with great reactions of the international
jazzcritics. He will be æArtist in residenceÆ for the cultural
centre æDe WarandeÆ in Turnhout (B) in 2004.
