ªª▓ intertwined with violin, supported by the backbone of leader Riccardo PrencipeÆs exquisite ▓ªª
ªª▓ guitarwork. The second track æTogether AloneÆ is absolutely infectious. I have caught myself ▓ªª
ªª▓ absent-mindedly singing the melody to myself on occasions too numerous to give a number. ▓ªª
ªª▓ This song features the prominent image of crossed hands, which I personally had no reference ▓ªª
ªª▓ point for. When searching google for the term æcrossed handsÆ I came upon a scientific study ▓ªª
ªª▓ referencing the æcrossed hands effectÆ on temporal order judgement, or how when a person ▓ªª
ªª▓ crosses their hands that their threshold for perceiving the order of events occurring in ▓ªª
ªª▓ based on tactile information increases by a factor of four. This struck me because the ▓ªª
ªª▓ lyrics to this song allude to ætime switching offÆ and how the night can seem endless when ▓ªª

ªª▓ this womb/tomb duality is the fact that the first half of the song is sung in modern ▓ªª

ªª▓ soaring dramatic strings. The playing and vocals are impeccable, but this track seems too ▓ªª
ªª▓ grandiose, almost to the point of being melodramatic. The final song æSu un dipinto di ▓ªª
ªª▓ Giovanni BelliniÆ is inspired by the Bellini painting æTransfiguration of ChristÆ displayed ▓ªª

ªª▓ very evocative of my experience over the last month listening to this album. I really ▓ªª
ªª▓ disliked this album upon listening to it casually in the context of previous Corde Oblique ▓ªª
ªª▓ albums as well as PrencipeÆs previous neomedieval ensemble Lupercalia. æA Hail of Bitter ▓ªª
ªª▓ AlmondsÆ had a very pop album feel to me with its stellar (over)production, massive sound, ▓ªª
ªª▓ sterling musicians, catchy melodies and slick video single, all seeming like drawbacks to ▓ªª
ªª▓ the more organic and pensive feeling of the previous work; but once I delved into it with a ▓ªª
ªª▓ critical mindset, the album blossomed in my mind like the almond tree in the Kazantakis ▓ªª
ªª▓ poem. This album is a whirlwind of conflicting emotions designed to point out to its ▓ªª
ªª▓ listeners how similar these dualisms can actually be, as if they are actually scalar values ▓ªª
ªª▓ on a spectrum instead of binary oppositions. An excellent work to add to an awesome body of ▓ªª
