│║ Most people did not have the attention span to ║ │
│║ see what thrash had to offer, outside the States ║ │
│║ and Germany. Britain falls under their shadows, ║ │
│║ along with many other nations. In fact, if you ║ │
│║ think British input in the thrash scene is ║ │
│║ inferior then you're missing out. But I will be ║ │
│║ honest, the majority of British thrash wasn't ║ │
│║ actually all that. (I'm British so I guess I ║ │
│║ have the right to make such statements.) D.A.M, ║ │
│║ are not a band you will NEED in your collection. ║ │
│║ However I believe they are painfully overlooked ║ │
│║ in part of being British. They are just as good ║ │
│║ as bands like Atrophy or Grinder, but their ║ │
│║ albums politely get passed up. Now, I have to ║ │
│║ look at it from most people's perspective. ║ │
│║ Atrophy gets points in people's books for being ║ │
│║ American, Grinder do so for being German. Now ║ │
│║ this isn't a whinge about Britain getting the ║ │
│║ odd nod when it comes to thrash, I'm just ║ │
│║ stating nationality seems to determine how far ║ │
│║ you got in the thrash metal food chain. So ║ │
│║ basically, give this band a chance at least... ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Having said all that though, the music hardly ║ │
│║ inspires. My comparison with Atrophy and ║ │
│║ Grinder, in my eyes was not exactly a ║ │
│║ compliment. I find both those bands to be rather ║ │
│║ generic and dull, with the odd moment of genius ║ │
│║ here and there. D.A.M have released an album ║ │
│║ that sounded old the minute it hit the shelves! ║ │
│║ I cannot believe thrash that sounds so primitive ║ │
│║ and cheesy was still pumping out in 1991. The ║ │
│║ production isn't all bad, but by this year, ║ │
│║ thrash and death metal bands were releasing ║ │
│║ songs that sounded like the riffs could slice ║ │
│║ through your flesh. This guitar presence on this ║ │
│║ record, is blunt and assuringly safe. And the ║ │
│║ vocals are good after the first two songs, but ║ │
│║ then that over the top falsetto starts to drive ║ │
│║ me literally fucking insane. It's all too high ║ │
│║ end for my liking. I could pick this album to ║ │
│║ shreds about the sound and whatever, but I wont, ║ │
│║ as I'm confused why D.A.M thought they were a ║ │
│║ serious force to be reckoned with. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Stand out tracks are man of violence, winter's ║ │
│║ tears and probably my twisted mind. Things ║ │
│║ spicen up a little here and there, for example ║ │
│║ some riffs are really catchy, but then progress ║ │
│║ into something dull. I mean many bands before ║ │
│║ D.A.M had played the absolute shit, out of this ║ │
│║ style of music. They were kicking a dead horse ║ │
│║ for shits and giggles. Maybe if this album came ║ │
│║ out two years prior, I may have added say five ║ │
│║ per cent. Human Wreckage (Their first album) ║ │
│║ kind of put them on the map. But the follow-up ║ │
│║ was just a re-hash of the first album, after a ║ │
│║ few more ciders. Now, my rating isn't completely ║ │
│║ abysmal. There are good bits, but it's hard to ║ │
│║ shout about the positives when the album is a ║ │
│║ chore to listen to. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Be fair give it a listen, but don't expect too ║ │
│║ much. Even if Britain's best efforts in thrash ║ │
│║ (this wasn't one of them) goes completely ║ │
│║ overlooked, I'm comforted by the fact that ║ │
│║ thrash owes its existince to our speed-metal and ║ │
│║ n.w.o.b.h.m movement. And without sounding too ║ │
│║ proud, that reason alone more than makes up for ║ │
│║ dull releases like this. ║ │
