ClichΘ though it may be to say so, the Gallic brand of electro-pop is
instantly distinguishable. Who else would dare juxtapose throbbing bass
with soft-as-brie synths and jutting guitars, let alone get away with
it? Housse De Racket are such a band. æRomanÆ and æChateauÆ are arching
pop anthems ß la their buddies Phoenix and Air. But, at their best,
they show psychedelic tendencies recalling æKidsÆ-era MGMT; in
particular the sublime æAquariumÆ, which motions from slinky ambience
to a booty-wobblinÆ crescendo via 80s new wave. ItÆs exhilarating stuff
and a superb addition to the achingly hip KitsunΘ roster.
