early Ska from the label that came to best represent it in the UK and
around the world û Bluebeat. The release features a chronological
collection of A and B sides on the label starting with the first release
from 1959 BB-1 featuring ôBoogie Rockö & ôHeavenly Angelö by Laurel
Aitken & The Boogie Cats through BB-25 ôMore Whiskyö by Laurel Aitken
with Duke Reid & His Group backed with ôParapinto Boogieö by Lloyd
Clarke with Duke Reid & His Group from 1960. There are of course bonus
tracks included on the 2 disc set. Enthucol, who wrote the liner notes
to the release, had this to say about the collection: It collects
together all the æJamaicanÆ sides (iÆe sides that they felt would appeal
to a Jamaican audience, not just those recorded in Jamaica) issued by
Melodisc during 1960, principally on æBlue BeatÆ but pleasantly collects
relevant sides issued on subsidiaries like æDukeÆ and æMelodiscÆ as
well.
