│║ If you have a disposition of any kind towards ║ │
│║ flower/power metal, this is most certainly, ║ │
│║ beyond any shadow of a doubt, an album for you. ║ │
│║ If not, you still should strongly consider ║ │
│║ checking it out, so long as you don't have an ║ │
│║ absolute aversion to any kind of music that's ║ │
│║ happy, uplifting, positive, and pretty catchy ║ │
│║ too. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ With that said, Power Quest has perfected the ║ │
│║ art of flower metal with Neverworld. The ║ │
│║ lighting fast drumming, soaring vocals, happy-go ║ │
│║ lucky surrealistic fantasy lyrics, blazing ║ │
│║ guitars, keyboards, and powerful melodies are ║ │
│║ omnipresent in the vast majority of Power ║ │
│║ Quest's work, and are here full-force in this ║ │
│║ album. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ First off, singer Alessio Garavello is really at ║ │
│║ the top of my list of power metal vocalists with ║ │
│║ talents like Fabio Lione of Rhapsody and Michael ║ │
│║ Kiske of Helloween. Really, the only guy that I ║ │
│║ feel is in a league of his own is the godly ║ │
│║ voice of Daniel Heiman from Lost Horizon. But ║ │
│║ that's a different story. Alessio's voice is ║ │
│║ perfectly suited for the music of Power Quest, ║ │
│║ as his performance is really quite inspired on ║ │
│║ here. He communicates the chaotic euphoria of ║ │
│║ Power Quest's music flawlessly, with a very ║ │
│║ impressive range and style that captures the ║ │
│║ feeling of, well (as un-metal as it sounds), ║ │
│║ happiness that was intended for the album. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The drums are the standard power metal fare, ║ │
│║ which is to say the guy can play double bass ║ │
│║ drum beats quite fast. Doubtless, the man's ║ │
│║ good, but you're not going to find anything ║ │
│║ particularly thrilling. The keyboard skills of ║ │
│║ Steve Williams are especially prominent on ║ │
│║ Neverworld, which might turn some off. In all ║ │
│║ honesty, the keys sound like the part from Van ║ │
│║ Halen's "Jump" on speed. But, I'm not going to ║ │
│║ say that's a bad thing. In my opinion, it adds ║ │
│║ to the charm of the album. The guitar work ║ │
│║ reminds me of a less manic, more melodic ║ │
│║ DragonForce. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Now on to the music... ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Prepare yourself for the first track, ║ │
│║ "Neverworld". This is as dark and heavy as the ║ │
│║ album gets, and it's pretty damn happy. Also, ║ │
│║ Neverworld is one of the more guitar-driven ║ │
│║ songs on the album. It's the second longest song ║ │
│║ on the album, and a good intro in my humble ║ │
│║ opinion. I really like the chorus here. (10/10) ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ "Temple of Fire" is up next. The euphoria really ║ │
│║ starts piling on here, in a story describing ║ │
│║ some sort of scene about a pilgrimage to, well, ║ │
│║ the Temple of Fire. The lyrics are slightly ║ │
│║ DragonForce-esque, with a touch of Freedom Call, ║ │
│║ except it's much better than both the ║ │
│║ aforementioned bands. (10/10) ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ In "Edge of Time", you can hear the 80's rock ║ │
│║ sound coming through loud and clear. It's a ║ │
│║ pretty retro track, and more of a straight ║ │
│║ forward rocker than the rest of the songs on ║ │
│║ here. I wonder if it's possible for a human ║ │
│║ being to sound happier than Garavello does when ║ │
│║ he says "we're standing on the edge of time" ║ │
│║ during the chorus. (9/10) ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ôSacred Landö is really flawless, and is ║ │
│║ performed with outstanding speed and energy. ║ │
│║ More fantasy lyrics set the mood here (although ║ │
│║ it can be hard to make out exactly what Alessio ║ │
│║ is singing at times, between the speed of his ║ │
│║ vocal delivery, high vocal register, and slight ║ │
│║ accent), pulling you into a lush, magnificent ║ │
│║ environment. As a side note, one thing that ║ │
│║ separates Power Quest lyrically from many other ║ │
│║ power metal bands is how, although they write ║ │
│║ lots of fantasy-themed lyrics, you wonÆt be ║ │
│║ finding any references to ôsteelö, ôflamesö, ║ │
│║ ôbloodö, etc. In short, theyÆre not in the ║ │
│║ Manowar mold lyrically or stylistically. The ║ │
│║ lyrics tend to be overwhelmingly positive, ║ │
│║ although vague to a degree. (10/10) ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Say what you will about power metal ballads, but ║ │
│║ I personally have a soft spot for them. IÆm a ║ │
│║ little bit of a softie. ôWhen IÆm Goneö is ║ │
│║ pretty great in my opinion, although it doesnÆt ║ │
│║ quite match up to the other songs on the album. ║ │
│║ Power Quest manages to evoke a real feeling of ║ │
│║ sentimentality that adds even more appeal to ║ │
│║ their music. That feel, however, I would say is ║ │
│║ perfected in ôChildren of the Dreamö on their ║ │
│║ third album, Magic Never Dies. (9/10) ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ôFor Evermoreö takes the 80Æs rock feel, and ║ │
│║ injects it with a few extra doses of power and ║ │
│║ soaring vocals, producing what might be the best ║ │
│║ song on the album. ItÆs not a speed track, but ║ │
│║ it retains the same majesty and force of the ║ │
│║ faster songs on Neverworld. I swear, if thereÆs ║ │
│║ an afterlife, this is the song I want to hear ║ │
│║ when I get there. ItÆs really breathtakingly ║ │
│║ awesome. Alessio gives his best performance ║ │
│║ here, and I would also say that ôFor Evermoreö ║ │
│║ is the lyrical highlight of the album. (10/10) ║ │

│║ Now ôWell of Soulsö is very interesting for me. ║ │
│║ The style is the same, yes. But the lyrics, ║ │
│║ wellàyouÆd never guess that the song is about ║ │
│║ souls being tormented in hell, because as usual, ║ │
│║ the melody and vocal delivery could easily ║ │
│║ convince me it was about rainbows or unicorn ║ │
│║ riding, had I not known better. ItÆs a great ║ │
│║ song nonetheless. (9.5/10) ║ │
