█▀░░ PsyCZ group was formed in spring 2001 by its first three members ... ░░▀█
█▀░ But as every group grows and gets new members, new people joined PsyCZ ░▀█
█▀░ to help us in our mission. Our main common loved genere was psychedelic ░▀█
█▀░ ... of course, but everone of us likes several more genres. This caused, ░▀█
█▀░ that several members began to demand releasing other music styles such ░▀█
█▀░ as ambient, drum&bass and few more ... So we realized, that our original ░▀█
█▀░ name PsyCZ is a little uncomfortable, because it highlights our psy - ░▀█
█▀░ sight. After few days of debates we decided to found new sub-group ... ░▀█
█▀░ and here we are ... PsyCZ_NP will bring you plenty of non psychedelic ░▀█
█▀░ music ... especially ambient, but some other genres are planned too. ░▀█
█▀░ Why did we decide for non-psy? Changing of the group name isn't possible ░▀█
█▀░ so possibilities we had was only adding a suffix to current group name ░▀█
 █▀░░ ... so have chosen non-psy, because it's clearest and most fluent ... ░░▀█
 █▀░░░ ░░░▀█

█▀║ Steve Roach / Vidna Obmana's 2002 CD INNERZONE served as the doorway ║▀█
█▀║ to the surreal environment explored on SPIRIT DOME. Recorded in one ║▀█
█▀║ continuous 74-minute session, this is a dark sanctuary of pure texture ║▀█
█▀║ and beautiful, if not at times foreboding, dissonance pulled along ║▀█
█▀║ with pulsing beats, subtle loops and dense soundworlds. The single ║▀█
█▀║ piece, "Spirit Dome," captures a chilling gothic ambience that offers ║▀█
█▀║ the exploration of remote psychological states of awareness. This is ║▀█
█▀║ achieved by way of extensive live processing of instruments including ║▀█
█▀║ fujara (overtone flute), guitar, and the seemingly bottomless ║▀█
█▀║ wellspring of electro-acoustic sounds found only in the duo's ║▀█
 █▀║ soundscapes. ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█
█▀║ SPIRIT DOME was created live on the spot in room 314, Philadelphia, ║▀█
█▀║ Pennsylvania on May 24th 2002, around 1 AM. Steve Roach and Vidna ║▀█
█▀║ Obmana were in town preparing for their performance at the 2002 ║▀█
█▀║ Gathering / Projekt Festival. With only a brief window of time in ║▀█
█▀║ which to work together before returning to their homes on opposite ║▀█
█▀║ sides of the Atlantic, their reaction to the claustrophobic urban ║▀█
█▀║ environment reveals a new dimension to their sound. ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█
█▀║ When listening to the recording unfold, one has to keep remembering ║▀█
█▀║ that this unscripted spontaneous creation was a live session recorded ║▀█
█▀║ directly to the stereo master, just as you will hear. No ║▀█
█▀║ post-production edits or overdubs were performed. Past discs from the ║▀█
█▀║ duo include 1995's WELL OF SOULS, 1997's CAVERN OF SIRENS and 2002's ║▀█
█▀║ INNERZONE; add their live concerts together in Europe and the U.S. and ║▀█
█▀║ we are brought to the enveloping world of SPIRIT DOME. ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█
 █▀║ (www.steveroach.com) ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█
█▀║ Spirit Dome reunites the artisanship of Steve Roach and Vidna Obmana ║▀█
█▀║ who have released superb collaborations in the past such as Well of ║▀█
█▀║ Souls, Cavern of Sirens and Innerzone. "Created live on the spot in ║▀█
█▀║ room 314" printed inside the linear notes has got me wondering were ║▀█
█▀║ there occupants in neighboring rooms 313 and 315 while this was all ║▀█
█▀║ taking place at around 1 a.m.? With no editing or manipulation done to ║▀█
█▀║ the original recording, Spirit Dome captures the raw essence of Roach ║▀█
█▀║ and Obmana's demiurgic capabilities and transcends my already high ║▀█
█▀║ expectations of what these two can produce. Divided into eight parts, ║▀█
█▀║ Spirit Dome is actually one long, uninterrupted piece spanning 73:31 ║▀█
█▀║ that builds and evolves subtly throughout with no obvious transitions ║▀█
 █▀║ between tracks. ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█
█▀║ Opening with the sound of water churning beneath rocks inside what ║▀█
█▀║ feels like a grotto or vast chamber, cricket chirps add to the ║▀█
█▀║ presence of nightfall, conveyed further by dissonant tonal shifts. ║▀█
█▀║ Chain-like clatter gradually intensifies as understated tribal ║▀█
█▀║ drumming emerges, eventually fading into the backdrop for a later ║▀█
█▀║ re-emergence. Eerie, metallic chords and stark wind hollows hover ║▀█
█▀║ above an obscured restlessness. The album is filled with plenty of ║▀█
█▀║ aural-organic spontaneity and a mood that shifts from preternatural to ║▀█
█▀║ earthy and archeological. Towards the end of the piece the tribal ║▀█
█▀║ drumming returns, this time gaining more prominence, along with wooden ║▀█
█▀║ timbres. The drumming is ceased for the final phase of the piece, ║▀█
█▀║ which slips into a vestigial calm and then evaporates. ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█
█▀║ While this recording is mildly serene it does tread on the spooky ║▀█
█▀║ side. Therefore it is a bit too unsettling for me to actually drift ║▀█
█▀║ asleep to. I do play it night, but choose to remain wide-eyed and ║▀█
█▀║ active when doing so. However the mood never becomes menacing nor ║▀█
█▀║ evokes any negative emotion, for Roach and Obmana each possess the ║▀█
█▀║ keen ability to create darkness without alienating the listener. I ║▀█
█▀║ feel comfortably creeped-out when listening to this disc as it sparks ║▀█
█▀║ a similar kind of intrigue and frightening fun one might experience ║▀█
█▀║ while watching an old mystery movie at night with the lights out. I ║▀█
█▀║ highly recommend it to those willing to venture into a more shadowy ║▀█
█▀║ world, and especially to fans of past Roach and Obmana collaborations. ║▀█
█▀║ Spirit Dome is haunted by relics and occupied with ingenuity! ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█

 █▀║ ║▀█
█▀║ A longstanding leader in contemporary electronic music, composer and ║▀█
█▀║ multi-instrumentalist Steve Roach drew on the beauty and power of the ║▀█
█▀║ earth's landscapes to create lush, meditative soundscapes influential ║▀█
█▀║ on the emergence of ambient and trance. A onetime professional ║▀█
█▀║ motorbike racer born in California in 1955, Roach - inspired by the ║▀█
█▀║ music of Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, and Vangelis - taught himself ║▀█
█▀║ to play synthesizer at the age of 20; debuting in 1982 with the album ║▀█
█▀║ Now, his early work was quite reminiscent of his inspirations, but ║▀█
█▀║ with 1984's Structures from Silence his music began taking enormous ║▀█
█▀║ strides, the album's expansive and mysterious atmosphere inspired ║▀█
█▀║ directly by the natural beauty of the southwestern U.S. Subsequent ║▀█
 █▀║ works including 1986's three-volume Quiet Music series honed Roach's ║▀█
█▀║ approach, his dense, swirling textures and hypnotic rhythms akin to ║▀█
 █▀║ environmental sound sculptures. ║▀█
█▀║ In 1988, inspired by the Peter Weir film The Last Wave, Roach ║▀█
█▀║ journeyed to the Australian outback, with field recordings of ║▀█
█▀║ aboriginal life inspiring his acknowledged masterpiece, the ║▀█
█▀║ double-album Dreamtime Return. A year later, he teamed with ║▀█
█▀║ percussionist Michael Shrieve and guitarist David Torn for The Leaving ║▀█
█▀║ Time, an experiment in ambient jazz. After relocating to the desert ║▀█
█▀║ outskirts of Tuscon, Arizona, Roach established his own recording ║▀█
█▀║ studio, Timeroom, and in the years to follow grew increasingly ║▀█
█▀║ prolific, creating both as a solo artist and in tandem with acts ║▀█
█▀║ including Robert Rich, Michael Stearns, Jorge Reyes and Kevin Braheny ║▀█
█▀║ - in all, close to two dozen major works in the 1990s alone, all of ║▀█
█▀║ them located at different points on the space-time continuum ║▀█
█▀║ separating modern technology and primitive music. His album roster ║▀█
█▀║ from that decade includes: Strata (1991), Artifacts (1994), Well of ║▀█
█▀║ Souls (1995), Amplexus (1997), and Dust to Dust (1998). Early Man was ║▀█
█▀║ released on Projekt in early 2001, followed by one of his many ║▀█
█▀║ collaborations with Vidna Obmana, Innerzone. ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█

 █▀║ ║▀█

█▀║ hence, vidnaObmana still finds this name allows him a sense of freedom ║▀█
█▀║ to place his music first before his own personality and philosophy. As ║▀█
 █▀║ a self-taught electronic musician, vidnaObmana explored different ║▀█
█▀║ musical realms before discovering the techniques of looping and ║▀█
█▀║ shaping harmonies, merging layers of sound while minimizing the ║▀█
█▀║ configurations to just a few notes. ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█
█▀║ Embracing the challenge to leap into unknown and uncharted terrain, ║▀█
█▀║ vidnaObmana refines his minimalistic sound-sculpting while expanding ║▀█
█▀║ the range of rhythms and performance on various acoustic instruments, ║▀█
█▀║ like the fascinating Slovakian overtone flute 'Fujara', and combining ║▀█
█▀║ his array of sounds with contemporary elements, slowly changing pace ║▀█
█▀║ with a great interest in the avantgarde. Recognized internationally ║▀█
█▀║ for his solo and collaborative work spanning over thirty-four albums, ║▀█
█▀║ commissioned works for the Dutch National Radio (VPRO), Zoo Antwerpen, ║▀█
█▀║ a Japanese TV documentary, MTV US and several Belgian video art ║▀█
█▀║ productions, including his critically acclaimed releases, continuous ║▀█
█▀║ productivity has paved the way for expanded visibility and recognition ║▀█
 █▀║ of vidnaObmana. ║▀█
 █▀║ ║▀█
█▀║ Throughout vidnaObmana's career, he has explored the abrasive side of ║▀█
█▀║ electronic composition, the freeform landscapes of the isolationist ║▀█
█▀║ ambient aesthetic, the structured interactivity of Fourth World ║▀█
█▀║ soundworlds, international music traditions and post-classical ║▀█
█▀║ experimentations. vidnaObmana personally considers his latest solo ║▀█
█▀║ album Tremor, initiating a new trilogy, and first for the American ║▀█
█▀║ Release/Relapse Records label as an essential re-birth of inspiration ║▀█
█▀║ and spirituality. The Story continues. ║▀█

█▀║ matured. PsyCZ started releasing in VBR over two years ago, and was met ║▀█
█▀║ with skepticism. As time went by, more and more realised that VBR is ║▀█
█▀║ superiour to cbr 192. Finally, now in 2004, VBR is allowed by the scene. ║▀█
█▀║ PsyCZ will also in 2004 continue to bring you the finest psychedelic ║▀█
