█░█▒ As Lo-Fi-Fnk sing on æShut The World OutÆ, ▒█░█
█░█▒ ôEverything looks the same from a distanceö; at ▒█░█
█░█▒ first glance, This Last Summer is your standard ▒█░█
█░█▒ electro pop album, but after a few rounds it really ▒█░█
█░█▒ starts to grow on you. Compared to Boylife, their ▒█░█
█░█▒ 2006 debut on Moshi Moshi, the Swedish band have ▒█░█
█░█▒ considerably developed both their sound and the ▒█░█
█░█▒ depth of their lyrics. ▒█░█
█░█▒ ▒█░█
█░█▒ After a bit of a bumpy start, the title track æLast ▒█░█
█░█▒ SummerÆ perfectly captures the feeling of a summer ▒█░█
█░█▒ passing you by too quickly; that sense of longing ▒█░█
█░█▒ and restlessness, ôAnother one comes and another ▒█░█
█░█▒ one goesö. æBoomÆ brings rave electro into the mix, ▒█░█
█░█▒ and the track would go down well in a club, but the ▒█░█
█░█▒ catchy vocals are somewhat dampened by a sound ▒█░█
█░█▒ reminiscent of a mosquito stuck in a jarà æMarchinÆ ▒█░█
█░█▒ InÆ successfully picks it back up, with bongos and ▒█░█
█░█▒ a killer hook. ▒█░█
█░█▒ ▒█░█
█░█▒ æWant UÆ is definitely an album highlight. ▒█░█
█░█▒ Unrequited love is a bummer at the best of times, ▒█░█
█░█▒ but with a song like this, you have no excuses for ▒█░█
█░█▒ staying down. ôYou could be all that you want ▒█░█
█░█▒ to/But you canÆt make someone want you/You try your ▒█░█
█░█▒ best if you want to/But you canÆt change your mind ▒█░█
█░█▒ even if youÆd like toö. The Last Summer closes with ▒█░█
█░█▒ æNu GenerationÆ, a slower track that puts softer ▒█░█
█░█▒ vocals to use, which perfectly rounds out the ▒█░█
