One of Bristol's most promising producers drops the best
release on Box Clever to date. A-side, the outstanding
'Way Mi Defend' lodges itself somewhere between Mala's
'Learn' and Kode 9's 'Backward', keeping rock-steady
timing with icy cymbal taps while the wide-assed subs and
congas sync to spine twysting effect. Flipside 'Azalea'
starts out with noirish French film dialogue and
beautifully sparing strings in the echo chamber, before
the rhythm settles into scissoring hi-hats and
whip-cracked snares, leading to a second half roll-out
Mala would be proud of. If this was released in '06 it
would probably be considered a genre classic by now. Tip!
