There is a lot to be said about Richard "Humpty" Vission.
He is, in fact, one of the most prolific American producers,
remixers and DJs of his time. His compilations alone make
him one of the best-selling stateside DJs ever with
SoundScans exceeding 300,000 units. Simply look at the list
of chart-topping dancefloor burners most recently a remix of
Madonna"s "Music" and artists (Rozalla, Pure Sugar and more)
that he has been associated with in his 15-year career and
it reads like a resume that any up-and-coming jock would
aspire to. And the crazy thing is at 31, the guy's not even
that old. Southern Californians got to know Richard Vission
(n╚e Gonzalez) in 1991 when he started hosting and mixing
Power 106's "Powertools," the longest running underground
radio mix show in Los Angeles. Soon after, he was the
producer behind "The Movement", whose rave anthem "Jump"
became a worldwide hit. But if you rewind a bit, you'll see
a Latin teenager growing up in East L.A., cutting class to
go spin records with his friends using some rather
unimpressive equipment. Today, things are a bit more
glamorous. You might recognize Vission as the resident DJ
on MTV's "The Blame Game," or as the successful co-founder
of West-Coast-based Aqua Boogie Records. Maybe you saw him
spin on one of the dozen of dates he played out this past
summer and fall to support the release of his latest Tommy
Boy compilation, "Shut the Fuck Up And Dance", a quick mixed
collection of 54 energetic tracks including three originals.
In any case, his list of accomplishments goes on and on.
The guy will tell you that it's no big deal, insisting that
he's just a kid from a rough neighborhood who "got lucky"
using a wicked ear for music.
