Vayden's new 5-song EP. Released August 13th, 2011. Mastered by Mark
Chalecki at Little Red Mastering, Eagle Rock California.
What does Vayden mean? The word Vayden by definition means knowledgeable or
scholarly. To the band, the name Vayden represents purpose, inspiration,
courage, and most importantly, life. Inspired by a personal tragedy, band
members Curtis Casey and Bruce Weitz resolved to carry on in the face of
adversity and use the pain to inspire and drive their creativity. Many of
their songs explore the relationship between good and evil, not afraid to be
confrontational and geared for destruction. Vayden balances their punishing
rhythms and raw tones with introspective lyrics and a surprisingly melodic
edge.
Their debut record ôChildren of Our Mistakesö is a combination of
hard-hitting rock songs hell bent on destruction (ôKarma is a Professional
Wrestlerö, ôElysiumö, ôUniformsö), over the top anthems with gigantic
choruses (ôAnthem of the Usedö, ôThe One You Left Behindö, ôPainted Faceö)
and beautifully introspective songs that pierce strait to the heart
(ôWelcomeö, ôZoeÆs Songö).
Since releasing ôChildren of Our Mistakesö in 2008, the band has been holed
up in The Spaceship, their Venice Beach studio, hard at work on their
sophomore record. The first track to surface from these sessions is a cover
of the recent Jay Z/Kanye single ôH.A.M.ö, recorded by the band as a show of
support to the people of Libya, currently fighting against their government
for their personal freedom. ôIf we were sculptors we would have built a
statue and found a way to send it over to show our support, but thatÆs not
our medium or meansö says Curtis.
This month, Vayden will release their cover of ôH.A.M.ö as a single, with
net proceeds going to charity. Next the band plans release a series of
singles with each release having a unique artistic angle, similar to
ôSphereö and itÆs short film component. All of this activity will lead up to
the release of their follow up to 2008Æs ôChildren of Our Mistakesö, a
record that will no doubt surprise and inspire both fans of the band and
newcomers alike.
