New York, NY - Epic Records' recording artist, SWEETBACK,
return with their second album, Stage 2, the follow up to
their 1996 critically acclaimed self-titled debut.
Comprised of three members, SWEETBACK is Stuart Matthewman
on guitar and saxophone, Andrew Hale on piano and
key-boards and Paul Spencer Denman on bass.
The trio is also known for being three-quarters of the
multi-platinum Sade band. Ever since their 1984debut,
Diamond Life, they all have played vital roles in creating
that special sound. Each have different influences and
tastes that fuse together to bring out a distinct signature
style. SWEETBACK began in 1994 at the end of Sade's Love
Deluxe world tour.
Stage 2 was produced by SWEETBACK and features eleven songs
filled with smooth grooves, a taste of ambience, infectious
beats and eclectic vocal styling.Vocalist Aya is introduced
on Stage 2, whom Matthewman met in New York several years
prior to her contribution on this album. Her unearthly voice
tributes to the succulent and sexy mood unveiled on Stage 2.
In addition, a different tone is set by singer/songwriter
Marc Anthony Thompson, better known as Chocolate Genius, who
lends his distinctive throaty voice to the album. The songs
on Stage 2 have a timeless feel that creates a surreal mood.
It's an album that has a unique freshness to it that will
remain for years to come. No matter what your mood is, Stage
2 will take you to a different place in your mind.
