In 1983 Carola had her legendary breakthrough with the song "FrΣmling" in
the Swedish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest and got full points
from all of the jury members. The moment she was declared the winner of the
contest most of us could already predict that Carola would be around for a
long time. Today, her more than 25 year long career is proof enough and it
is far from over.
Carola is Sweden's and one of Scandinavia's most celebrated and best-selling
artist with sales surpassing two million albums only in Sweden.
Carola has always chosen music harmonious with her feelings: each
time-period having it's own music genre. She has done it all, from pop music
in the Eurovision Song Contest, collaborating with The Bee Gees in Miami, to
rock, gospel, soul, folk songs and psalms in different projects and albums.
In addition, she has performed in musicals such as "Sound of Music" and Les
MisΘrables," TV shows, Nordic Christmas shows, at many sold-out tours all
over Scandinavia and been very successful in several countries, e.g the
Netherlands, Germany, England, Japan, the United States and China.
Here you will be able to follow Carola from the time she sang

beginning of her journey into the digital world with a newly assembled

1966
Carola Maria HΣggkvist was born on the 8<sup>th</sup> of September at
S÷dersjukhuset in Stockholm, a joyous moment for mother Anita and father
Jan. They already had a daughter, Susanne, whom now got a baby sister.
1973-1976
Carola began first grade at Borgskolan 1973. 1976 she moved to a song class
at Mariaskolan in Stockholm as Carola had always had an interest in music
and theatre.
1977
Carola won the national final in "Barnens Dags TalangtΣvling - New faces" at
S÷dra Teatern in Stockholm. On November 28 the same year she did her first
TV appearance performing the winning song "Krokodilbarnets Klagan" in the
SVT production "Sveriges Magasin."
1980
Carola appeared on several different TV shows, such as "Nygammalt" with the
trio "Tre Tjejer," and she performed the solo numbers "Brevet frσn Ellinor"
and "Ellinor Dansar" in "Taube i Vσra HjΣrtan" broadcasted on SVT on New
Years Eve.
1981
Bert Karlsson found out about this very young talent as she performed the
song "If I Can Dream" by Elvis Presley in the TV show "Hylands H÷rna." Later
that same year Bert Karlsson asked Carola to participate in Eurovision Song
Contest but she turned him down.
1983
1983 was the year of Carola's legendary breakthrough with the song
"FrΣmling" in the Swedish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. She won
getting the full points from all the jury members - and became a star
overnight. The Carola Fever quickly spread across Scandinavia and her debut
album sold a million copies. Not only this but her concert tour reached
record-breaking audience. "Mickey" (the Swedish version of Toni Basil's hit
song) and "SΣg mig var du stσr" were successful as well.
1984
Carola went to Japan, where she recorded a single with the two songs
"Fushigi na hitomi (Don't tell me what to do)" & Rendez-vous" in Japanese.
The single entered the Japanese charts. Back in Sweden she recorded two
albums, "Steg f÷r steg" and "Pσ egna ben." Together they sold 700.000 copies
and gave rise to more big hits. The TV show, "Carola sσ in i Norden," aired
for the first time and Carola toured in amusement parks all over
Scandinavia.
1985-1986
In the spring of 1985 Carola had the opportunity to go to Miami and record
"The Runaway," a pop album with songs written especially for Carola by
Maurice and Robin Gibb from The Bee Gees, both of whom were very impressed
by her singing ability. The album was released in Scandinavia in 1986 and
sold Double Platinum. In 1985 another album "Happy Days" was also released
and Carola toured Sweden in the summer.
1987
Carola went on a church tour with Per-Erik Hallin whom she has worked with a
lot during her whole career. They performed together in the TV show
"NattkafΘ." After that Carola was a guest on the show "AffΣren Ramel" where
she sang a duet with Povel Ramel. The album "Live i RΣttviks Kyrka" was
released in November, the same month Carola was engaged to Runar S÷÷gard in
Fellingsbro Vicarage.
1988-1989
1988 Carola went to Texas to study and 1989 she performed together with the
band Jerusalem in the TV show Caramba.
1990
Carola participated once again in the Swedish selection for the Eurovision
Song Contest and this time she came in second with the song "Mitt i Ett
─ventyr." In May Carola and Runar got married in Uppsala and later that fall
she released her first pop album in many years. "Much More" sold Gold in
Sweden.
1991
Third time around Carola decided to participate in the Swedish Eurovision
Song Contest with the song "Fσngad av en Stormvind," but it did not end
there. Once in Rome she won the whole Eurovision Song Contest. Subsequently,
she participated in several European TV shows and released the album
"Hits/Fσngad av en Stormvind" and went on tour all over Sweden. In November
Carola released her first Christmas album "Jul."
1992
Carola went to China and became the first Scandinavian artist to release an
album in this country. On New Years Eve she performed in Chinese TV for an
audience of over 600 million people. In the capacity of being last year's
winner she sang at the opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest which
was held in Sweden this year.
1993
The 10 Year Anniversary of Carola's breakthrough was celebrated with a live
TV show in which her first ten years as an artist were summarized. Carola
becomes the new face for the fashion line "Kriss" and models their clothes.
Even this year there is a summer tour and the album "My Tribute" is
released.
1994-1996
As Carola felt a desire to return to guitar, base and drums she started a
collaboration with the rock producer Lasse Lindbom. Together they made the
album "Personligt." It produced several hit songs and showed Carola's talent
as a songwriter.
1995-1996
Carola went on a rock tour and hosted the show "Myck'e N÷je med Carola." She
also debuted as musical actress and enjoyed great success in the role of
Maria in the musical "Sound of Music." She did 325 performances - not even
once did she have to cancel because of illness. She received the prestigious
prize "Guldmasken" for her interpretation of Maria. The album "Hits vol.2"
was released in November.
1997
Carola went straight from the musical stage to performing at different
musical festivals throughout Sweden. In the fall she recorded the new single
"Dreamer" and released the double album "The Best of Carola," in which 30
songs recap her fourteen years as one of Sweden's most celebrated artists.
1998
At 10.38 a.m. on January 26 Carola gave birth to her son Amadeus at
S÷dersjukhuset. In spite of being a new mother she was able to accomplish
quite a lot that year. One of these things was dubbing the voice for Miriam
in Steven Spielberg's first animated movie, "The Prince of Egypt." In the
fall the album "Blott en dag" was released, an album with psalms by Lisa
Sandell which sold Gold in both Sweden and Norway. Carola concluded the year
with a Christmas Show tour, which attracted an audience of more than 100.000
people.
1999
In 1999 the successful concept "Jul i Betlehem" was invented. Carola records
the album in Bethlehem together with Swedish, Norwegian and Israeli
musicians as well as a Palestinian Children's choir. The album sold more
than 350.000 records in Sweden with a total sales of about 600.000 sold
copies. The album radiated warmth and class and showed how much Carola has
matured as a song- and lyric writer - among other things she co-wrote the
song "Himlen i min famn," one of her best according to many.
She was also a guest at "Rhapsody in Rock" and at the end of the year she
performed in two Christmas shows at Globen and Scandinavium, gave a
Christmas concert for TV4 and participated in a number of other TV shows.

Carola and Tommy K÷rberg performed their show "A Musical Night" premiering
in London followed by performances in Sweden. Carola went on "White
Christmas Tour" in Sweden, Norway and Finland and she participated in the
documentary "Carola in South Africa" broadcasted on TV4. This is also the
year Carola and Runar went their separate ways.
2001
In the spring Carola released the album "Sov pσ Min Arm." This was the album
she got the Ulla Billqvist award for. Carola got around to releasing a
second album, the more modern pop album, "My Show" and so displayed that her
voice is well suited for the 21<sup>st</sup> century pop as well. The album
was released in November and sold Gold the first day.
2002
In 2002 it was time for a new musical and this time Carola got the leading
role as Fantine in "Les MiserablΘs." Carola was one of the first artists who
performed as "Special Guest" for a whole week in West End in London and she
was celebrated for her accomplishment. The same year Carola traveled to Cuba
to record a video for the single "I Believe in Love," she was a guest on
"Allsσng pσ Skansen" and once more she went on a successful "Christmas in
Bethlehem Tour."
2003
Carola celebrates 20 years in the music business and releases a collection
pack "Guld, platina & passion - Det bΣsta med Carola." In this album, among
others things, she interprets Elvis songs to link to her debut appearance
more than 20 years ago in the popular TV show Hylands H÷rna when she sang
the Elvis song "If I Can Dream." Pσl Svenre produces a new version of the
same song, which was one of three new songs that were included in the double
collection pack.
- "It felt absolutely magical in the studio singing "If I Can Dream." After
20 years of maturing this song now fits me perfectly: I now dare being more
"desperate" when I singing high pitches," Carola says.
The collection pack contained 32 songs from albums that sold Gold or
Platinum and it reflected Carola's career from "FrΣmling" to "I Believe in
Love" from her latest pop album at the time, "My Show." A song that was new
when the collection pack was released was the single "NΣr l÷ven faller"
composed by Ingemar ┼berg, lyrics by Carola herself. - "First time he played
it to me the lyrics came instantaneously," Carola recounts. In the summer
this year she even went on an Anniversary Tour. Opening night was at Cirkus
where the show was recorded for TV. Carola also participated in the Swedish
Eurovision Song Contest but this time as guest host together with Mark
Levengood. Carolas performance, flying above the audience strapped to a rope
singing a medley with Alice Babs via an old TV film clip was a big success.
2004
Carola released her Christian album "Credo." This album contained old,
well-known Christian songs with a new and more modern arrangement. The album
sold Gold. The album "18 BΣsta" was released in December and Carola
performed at several Christmas concerts.
2005
The album "St÷rst av allt" was released in April 2005, after Carola lost
both her parents in a short time span. The album contains songs for
christening, weddings and funerals, among them old classics with new
arrangement and some new songs written by Carola herself. The album has sold
Platinum by now and was a success in all of Scandinavia. During the summer
Carola toured in Norway. On the 26<sup>th</sup> of December Carola sang "Jag
Vill Alltid ─lska" at a memorial in Khao Lak for the victims of the tsunami.
2006
For the third time Carola won the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest and made a
fantastic performance with "Invincible" in Athens where she finished in
fifth place in the competition. This was the start of an intense year with
extensive tours and marketing of the new album "Frσn Nu till Evigheten,"
which was released in June 2006.
-"First time I heard the song "Invincible" I really liked it and the
powerful dynamic of the song combined with the passion in my life made me
feel invincible. Participating in ESC gives you such a unique possibility to
reach a lot of people simultaneously. The spark was lit when I was in
Copenhagen at the ESC fiftieth anniversary. I felt grateful because that is
where my roots are," Carola says.
2007
In January Carola was awarded His Majesty the King's Medal in Eighth Size
with Royal Blue Ribbon for appreciated and successful achievements as a
singer. She performed both at Belarus' and Spain's finals for ESC 2007, gave
several concerts throughout Sweden and appeared in the TV show Idol as a
guest juror and coach.
The second album in the "Jul i Betlemen" series, "I denna natt blir vΣrlden
ny - Jul i Betlehem II" was released in December and just as the first one
became successful.
2008
Carola celebrated 25 years as an artist with pomp and circumstance at the
Palladium in Malmoe, the same location where she won with "FrΣmling." In
connection with this she released the album "FrΣmling 25 σr." In cooperation
with Andreas Johnson she created the duo "Johnson and HΣggkvist" They
participate as jokers in the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest with the song
"One Love." *For the second time, she is a host at "Idol" as a juror and
coach, in the fall of 2008.
2009
In the spring and early summer Carola performs both at the opening ceremony
of Eurovision Song Contest in Russia and at "Allsang pσ Grensen" in Norway
with the ESC winner of the year - Alexander Rybak. In the fall Carola has
worked hard to internationalize the successful concept "Jul i Betlehem," now
called "Christmas in Bethlehem," and the album is released on November 11.
On this record there are several exciting duets with for example Hans-Erik
Dyvik Husby from the group Turbo Negro and the British superstar Paul Potts.
In September she signed with her new record label X5 Music Group.
