You all probably know Brock Van Wey best for his very specific brand of
shimmering post-Basic Channel ambience, and heÆs certainly been busy in the
last few years with releases appearing left, right and centre. This latest
album sees the American exploring a different sound, however û and while the
tracks are still long, dreamlike explorations into deep electronica, thereÆs a
slightly jarring leaning towards psychedelic trance and industrial pop that
prevails throughout. Bitcrushed drums sit on top of Van WeyÆs patented
textures, and snatches of vocals give the illusion of standing in a club in
1996 with a neckful of MDMA. Van Wey has always imbued his compositions with a
hefty dose of nostalgia, and æResistance is BeautifulÆ might be the most
nostalgic to date. ItÆs almost like hearing a compilation of electronic music
past reimagined as dreamy ambience...
