After bursting onto the Jamaican music scene in 1966, the Ethiopians swiftly
became one of JamaicaÆs most popular vocal trios, cutting a series of
best-selling 45s for leading producer, Clement æCoxsonÆ Dodd. The following
year, the groupÆs Rock Steady anthem, æTrain To SkavilleÆ breached the UK
charts and introduced the world at large to the sound of young Jamaica. A
series of sublime self-produced singles promptly followed, with the best of
the these subsequently comprising their hugely collectable debut album,
æEngine 54Æ. Now, 42 years after its original release, this seminal album is
finally being released on CD as the latest in TrojanÆs highly acclaimed
Originals series. As with other titles in the range, the original artwork has
been faithfully reproduced, with the Jamaican analogue tapes from 1968 used
for its mastering.
Featuring one of the most influential acts in Jamaican music history, backed
by some of the greatest musicians the island has ever produced, this is Rock
