│ Eric began making music at the tender age of 9, and was │
│ so fanatic from this early stage, that a lack of │
│ equipment and a locked door werenÆt gonna stop him from │
│ making tunes. His habit of breaking and entering to │
│ ôborrowö the schoolÆs keyboards landed him in ôInternatö,│
│ a Swedish reform school for supposedly problem kids! This│
│ just strengthened his resolve, as did the growing number │
│ of his friends that could hear Eric had the skills to │
│ move them. Still today, Eric says that when things are │
│ going against him, thatÆs when heÆs at his best in the │
│ studio. │
│ │
│ Eric grew up to the sounds of Depeche Mode and Electro, │
│ and this ear for catchy 80Æs synth melodies can │
│ occasionally be heard creeping into his work along with │
│ a current crop of influences like Alexender Kowalski and │
│ Underground Resistance. When a friendÆs elder brother │
│ returned from Ibiza in 1989 with a mix tape, Eric │
│ immediately became a house music convert. He says the │
│ tape ôblew him awayö and changed his path forever. │
│ │
│ Working from his (literally) underground studio in the │
│ heart of Stockholm, Eric Prydz creates hard-hitting │
│ tunes, with a firm foundation in funk. Influenced by the │
│ rock solid production quality of the æfirst generationÆ │
│ of Stockholm production talent, such as Hσkan Lidbo and │
│ Adam Beyer, his gift for the æmixÆ is astounding, but │
│ what sets him apart from the crowd is his talent for │
│ hooks and melodies. Unusual for most of todayÆs dance │
│ productions, youÆll find yourself humming these tunes! │
│ │
│ A rough tape of demoÆs was enough to persuade EMI that │
│ Eric had a big future and his initial release through │
│ New Religion was ôMr Jinglesö, a twisted boogie bassline │
│ and driving rhythm track that led Eric Morillo to license│
│ it for his mix CD. It still features in the sets from the│
│ head of Subliminal records. │
│ │
│ After the success of that initial release, EMI decided │
│ Eric would be better suited on their flagship dance label│
│ Credence. A remix of ôMr Jinglesö together with two new │
│ tracks followed, and formed the first of three hugely │
│ successful releases ôEP1ö. By the time ôEP3ö came around,│
│ Eric had developed into one of the hottest names in house│
│ music. The original version of ôSlamminö from EP3 became │
│ THE biggest instrumental tune on Ibiza, the island that │
│ breaks dance music for the world. │
│ │
│ Word of EricÆs production skills has spread, leading him │
│ to be one of the most sought-after remixers on the │
│ current scene. Remixes for clients like Credence, Junior │
│ and now The Pet Shop Boys have meant that his work is │
│ barely off the playlist of the UKÆs biggest DJÆs Seb │
│ Fontaine, Judge Jules and Pete Tong. │
│ │
│ So to the present and Eric Prydz ties up with a Dancehall│
│ legend to bring a new spin on the monster ôSlamminö. │
│ Cutty Ranks has been one of the biggest names in Reggae │
│ since Eric was knee-high to a keyboard, and now the │
│ superstar of Dancehall adds his signature vocals to the │
│ fierce Prydz club-smash. Response from advance snipets │
│ of this tune has been insane, and the track is set to be │
│ huge! │
│ │
│ And the future? Well, Eric is finilizing plans for his │
│ own ôMousevilleö recording label, and fast building a │
│ reputation as an outstanding DJ too. With the worldÆs │
│ leading DJÆs in his corner you can expect to be hearing │
│ EricÆs raw funky hooks over spine tingling beats in a │
│ Club near you. │
