On this album Gopal Krishan is performing three ragas
in three different styles of indian classical music.
Raga Mangal-Bhairav in the Khyal style, Raga
Tilak-Kamod in Dhrupad and Raga Bhairavi in the Thuri
style. It seems, that there are two albums of Gopal
Krishan, both on the label Ocora / Radio France. This
is one of them. Thanks to JUST for the other one.
Interesting thing i have found about Gopal Krishnan:
"Gopal Krishnan, the vichitra veena maestro, was jailed
during the British Raj. He mesmerised the hardened
criminals in his cell with music played on ektara, the
only instrument he was allowed to take with him. He
played it like a veena and his live demonstration
during the symposium floored all with its undiluted
sweetness."
