Daniel Carter - alto saxophone
Reuben Radding - bass
Recorded by Reuben Radding at On The Boards, Earshot Jazz
Festival on October 21, 2001 and by Tucker Martine at Flora
Studios, Seattle on October 30, 2001
This exquisite entry to eternity manifests a singular quietude -
a mesmeric magnitude is maintained full through, broken only
(perhaps) by the beckoning home of sea creatures at itÆs
conclusion. Multi-instrumentalist tone master Daniel Carter is
featured here in rare exclusivity on alto saxophone and, for
the first time, on our West Coast.
Daniel Carter is an underground legend and has been an integral
part of the NYC music scene for three decades and running.
ôUndergroundö largely because he sublimates his profound gifts
into the pro-creative collective. He is a founding member of
the peerless soul/improv groups Other Dimensions In Music and
TEST. Over the past three decades, Daniel Carter has performed
and/or recorded with (among countless others): Sun Ra, William
Parker (from the very early 70's into the present), Cecil
Taylor, Yo La Tengo, Matthew Shipp, Medeski, Martin, & Wood,
Sam Rivers, No Neck Blues Band, Sunny Murray, Spring Heel Jack,
Sonic Youth. This is Mr. CarterÆs first album under his own
name as äleader.ô Of course, this is a fully collaborative duo!
Reuben Radding - DC punk rocker as a youth - made his way to
New York in æ88 to pursue improvised music. Quickly immersed
himself in the ôDowntownö music community, performing in groups
led by John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Elliott Sharp, Roy Campbell, and
Dave Douglas. Toured Europe with Ribot, and as the leader of
Myth Science - a Sun Ra repertory band which also released the
CD Love In Outer Space. Relocating to Seattle in æ97, he
performed with Eyvind Kang, Wally Shoup, Wayne Horvitz, Vena
Cava, Michael Bisio, Jessica Lurie, and many others. Receiving
a grant from Artist Trust in 2001, he brought Daniel Carter to
Seattle for the collaborative project which produced
Luminescence. Radding moved back to NYC in the summer 2002,
where he is furthering the process of making himself
indispensable.
