▄▀░████▓░▀║ Norwood, Ontario, Canada. Norwood, an ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ undetectably petite town of only 1500 people, is ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ apparently perfect fuel for the creative minds of ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Three Days Grace. These dudes have spread their ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ sound all over the land of opportunity quicker ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ than a spilt glass of milk will cover a blue ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ carpet. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Most of their increase in popularity is a direct ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ result of the relatively smooth sounds of their ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ self-titled debut (well, it's smooth compared to ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ the music of other nu-metal contemporaries). ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Almost every single song from the Three Days ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Grace track list is heavy and catchy, with chewy ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ chunks of assurance and fury thrown in for added ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ measure. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ The foremost example of Three Days Grace's sound ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ can be heard in what happens to be their first ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ single, "I Hate Everything About You." The track ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ opens up with a solemn acoustic guitar intro, ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ which is accompanied by slick drums and ripping ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ bass lines. Supplied by guitarist Barry Stock, ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ the riff showcases him as being more than just ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ your everyday guitar player; he's part of the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ vanguard of new ax wielders hailing from Canada. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ His skilled guitar licks are more than welcome in ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ the States, as long as they are complemented by ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ the ruthless vocals of fellow band mate Adam ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Gontier. With Gontier screaming about an ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ adoration that shouldn't be ("I hate everything ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ about you/Why do I love you") and Stock thrashing ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ away on his instrument, Three Days Grace have ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ molded a song that is particularly catchy to the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ avid MTV fan. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ The next track up on the list is "Home," which is ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ definitely the most superb song you can hear ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ while perusing this album. Gontier sings and ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ hollers about the everyday conflicts a teenager ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ may encounter with one of their kin. He sings ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ about how "this house is not a home" and how he ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ "can hardly wait to leave this place." Obviously ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ this track has been influenced by Gontier's ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ interactions with one of his family members. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Maybe it was his mother, his father, whoever. But ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ this track has deep roots of abhorrence towards ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ one's family. It's as if he can't even stand to ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ talk to these people. And that's a frustration ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ that many young adults can relate to, as they ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ attempt to grow up and run into the eventual ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ clash with their parents and relatives over ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ maturity issues. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Now we arrive at track 6, "Let You Down". Where ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ as the previous songs on the album are about ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ hate, this one is seemingly about support and ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ reliance. But after about 45 seconds into the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ song, you realize that Gontier is singing "I'll ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ let you down/When you finally trust me/Finally ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ believe in me." He sets you up for a song about ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ brotherhood and instead blindsides you with words ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ of disappointment. It's a nice little twist, ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ which is joined by flowing bass lines and a drum ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ kit whose snare is wound just a little too tight. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ As far as the snare goes, it's just a little ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ bothersome as it's a little too reminiscent of ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Lars Ulrich's snare on St. Anger. A mistake like ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ that could ruin an artist's performance, but ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ drummer Neil Sanderson pulls away in style, ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ tossing in a bit more concentration on the bass ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ drums during the chorus, which proves to be a ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ rater nice move. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Mistakes? There's not many. Sure, a few of the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ songs on Three Days Grace might sound a little ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ too much like some of the other material you may ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ hear on your local rock station, but if you ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ listen closely you'll discover that their music ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ is actually quite angrier than the majority. I ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ mean this album is seriously filled to the brim ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ with anger, both musically and lyrically. The ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ members aren't generally enraged people; they ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ just know how to craft songs with angry lyrics, ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ and they do it quite well, I might add. ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ Most teenagers will be able to associate ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ themselves with Three Days Grace without ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ difficulty. Yet this album can be recommended to ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ kids of all backgrounds and ages, no matter what ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ they're fretting about. Maybe you despise your ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ job and practically all of your co-workers, maybe ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ going to class is just too monotonous, maybe the ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ collective populace of the world gets on your ║▀░▓████░▀▄
▄▀░████▓░▀║ nerves or maybe you just want to tell your father ║▀░▓████░▀▄
