From the heart of Grand Central come Dual Control with their debut
album æLeft Or RightÆ. The duo combine 12 years DJing experience of
the Manchester æStreet SoulÆ scene and the labelÆs very own
engineer who cut his teeth working on AimÆs æCold Water MusicÆ; Rae
& ChristianÆs æSleepwalkingÆ and RitonÆs æBeats Du JourÆ.
Dual ControlÆs sound is big bass lines, scratching by DJ Styles,
layered horns and hard beats. With its strings, organic sounds and
samples of real vocals and instruments, Dual Control have produced
an album that embrace s their love of different types of music.
Check æBurn It OutÆ with its dark and bassy ragga beats, while
æStoned MasonÆ and æOpticalÆ (the first 12ö) is straight up Hip
Hop. Their penchant for film scores is satisfied with the James
Bondesque æDo You RememberÆ, æSpring AgainÆ with its ethereal
female vocal is a æproperÆ song.
The track æStoned MasonÆ features Peter Parker from Fingathing on
æcuts and scratchesÆ; Spikey T, (Bomb The Bass, Aim Live, Rae &
Christian) features on æBurn It OutÆ while drummer/producer Dubble
D (20:20 Vision) û and Loretta (Mo Wax, Bugs in the Attic) feature
on æSpring AgainÆ.
æLeft Or RightÆ blends all of this together, producing an album
which successfully embodies imaginative Djing and Sampling
techniques. Influenced by friend and mentor Steve Christian, Dual
Control combine the complex layering of sounds, with the
painstaking sampling of single notes. Instead of sampling a
complete bass line and looping it, they sample single bass notes,
rearrange them, and then loop them. The same laborious technique is
used for the other sounds, resulting in a mature production style.
Delicate and intricate with dark street soul bass. æLeft Or RightÆ
