█ Unless something earlier pops up, The Sin Syndicate seems to be █
█ director MICHAEL FINDLAY's first feature film. (Previously, Findlay █
█ had collaborated with John Amero on The Body of a Female, and shot █
█ about half of Satan's Bed, both also released in 1965). And while The █
█ Sin Syndicate doesn't contain the type of outrageous over-the-top █
█ violence the man who made The Touch of Her Flesh is best known for, █
█ it's still unmistakably a Findlay film and displays the same disgust █
█ with women and overall contempt for humanity that made his later █
█ films such appalling classics. In fact, the very first scene of his █
█ very first feature is a woman being strung up for torture. █
█ █
█ 'You've seen us before. You've seen us on every street where pretty █
█ bodies are an easy mark with a price. To the rackets, we're Zero █
█ Girls. Nothing. Zero. We're all owned by the syndicate, body and █
█ soul. Or should I just say ΓÇÿbody,' because after a few nights you █
█ can't remember being a woman or ever having a soul....' █

█ Dolores (YOLANDA MORENO) began as an 18-year-old stripper in Havana █
█ until the revolution got in the way. (Why, it's almost like watching █
█ The Godfather Part II.) Out of work, she went to work for 'The █
█ Syndicate' as an official Party Girl: 'I didn't know then that I had █
█ already been bought and paid for!' █
█ █
█ Little Lorna (JUDY ADLER), voted 'Most Likely to Succeed' back home, █
█ came to the Big City to do a strip act with a hammock. When she won't █
█ put out for a producer, three men throw her in the back of a moving █
█ freight truck where she's beaten and raped (a well-done but hard to █
█ watch scene) until she'll put out for anyone.... █

█ And Candy (JUNE ROBERTS) 'wanted the fun and excitement of being a █
█ woman.' Instead, she lost her virginity to a mobster (in an apartment █
█ inexplicably decorated with a voodoo motif) who put her to work as a █
█ syndicate ho. █

█ All three are shacked up in 'Zero House,' as is DARLENE BENNETT, █
█ picked up on the street by Findlay himself, who pays to watch her █
█ make it with another gal.... █

█ Released by JOSEPH BRENNER and also known as Zero Girls -- the print █
█ includes both titles (but no technical credits) -- The Sin Syndicate █
█ is one hell of a warm-up act. Unrelentingly nasty, full of great █
█ hard-boiled narration, and starring three of our favorite █
█ sexploitation kittens, The Sin Syndicate is pure Findlay filth that █
█ pretty much sets the tone for the rest of his Sixties sleaze. One █
█ very unusual moment stands out: a strange stylized sequence where, █
█ inside a pitch-black void, three cot-like beds are illuminated, each █
█ with a menacing thug on it pawing on either June or Judy while, above █
█ them all, Yolanda gyrates on a go-go stage. Very bizarre -- almost █
█ like a theatrical piece for perverts. Also surprising are three █
█ lengthy chunks of stock footage which stop the film dead in its █
█ tracks so we can reflect upon the Cuban Revolution, the London blitz, █
█ and the bombing of a battleship! █
█ And remember, kids: 'As long as there are men, you will find Zero █
█ Girls!' █
