Released in the U.K. in November of 1963, With the Beatles,
the group's second album, remains to this day one of its
finest achievements. While the Beatles would write more
sophisticated material and explore greater emotional
terrain, and while the depths of its talents were only
slowly being realized, the group would never again achieve
the same degree of rawness and freshness. In America,
Capitol Records would release a similar collection called
Meet the Beatles, with the same cover and a variation of the
tracks featured here. For most stateside fans, this was
their first exposure to a band that would dominate the
pop-music landscape for the rest of the decade. -
