ª We're on a platform 45 feet above the 15 000+ crowd atª
ªthe closing party to Montreal's 2000 end-of-summer Cream ª
ªFestival. The crowd seems to be almost entirely shirtless ª
ª- bodies packed in tight, faces shining with sweat. Three ª
ªgirls in tiny matching gold outfits are ripping moves on aª
ªscaffolding, their timing tight and their hair flying. ª
ª Hope Recordings' Leon Alexander is videotaping the ª
ª scene, but can't seem to focus on one thing before ª
ª something catches his attention. Darren Emerson and Daveª
ª Ralph look up from a conversation beside the booth ª
ª speakers to point at a slick scantily-clad girl surfing ª
ª across the top of the crowd, legs in the air and red ª
ª g-string exposed. Firecrackers explode out of the roof, ª
ªraining stars as the beat climbs then crashes. Max Graham ª
ª is behind the decks, his arms folded calmly across his ª
ª chest and his eyes shrewdly scanning the chaos as the ª
ª place falls apart, wearing a small half-smile that says ª
ª "Yeahà I know..." ª
ª ª
ª To this point Max has risen from top-40 DJ in a teen ª
ª club to a residency in a busy Ottawa underground club to ª
ª gigs across Canada to the title of "Canada's progressive ª
ª house ambassador" to North American recognition. Three ª
ª years ago he signed with UK based Hope Recordings, and ª
ª has since played out with the likes of label-mate Timo ª
ª Maas, Van Dyk, and Oakenfold... He started producing ª
ªindependently, and quickly released singles like Airtight ª
ª and Shoreline, which and been featured on compilations ª
ªfrom Oakenfold and Tiesto among others... He signed on to ª
ª Kinetic Records in New York in the last year, which ª
ªreleased his Transport 4 double CD compilation... He's ª
ªbeen playing everywhere - Asia, Israel, England, Australiaª
ªIbiza, all over North America - with residencies at Circusª
ª in LA, Nikita in San Francisco, Sona in Montreal, ª
ªGatecrasher in Sheffieldà He played for crowds of 40 000+ ª
ª at Gatecrasher's summersoundsystem, and is signed on to ª
ª play both US Creamfields... He's caught the interest of ª
ªMTV, Mixer, Mixmag and other dance media luminariesàHe's ª
ªgot a full touring and production schedule through 2001...ª
ª and by all accounts, he's just warming up. ª
