A beautiful vocalist who's been singing since the age of
four, Carmen Rodgers has always had a love for music and is
now pursuing her lifelong dream. Her sultry voice captivates
all audiences with an interesting blend of Blues, Soul and a
hint of Gospel.
This singer/songwriter is looking to make her mark on the
world with her life experiences expressed through melodious
music and passionate text. All will definitely feel Carmen's
music because of her clever way of bringing your everyday
joys, sorrows and life experiences innately together with
captivating melodies. From Jazz, to Rhythm and Blues to
Neo-Soul, there are no limits or boundaries to what this
artist can do.
The album is produced by Ernie G and Geno Young who combine
youth and experience. Ernie is a Forth Worth based musician
and DJ who is new to the recording scene and, as Carmen puts
it, is to her what Sweetback is to Sade. Geno, who is a
recording artist in his own right, was Erykah Badu's music
director and both wrote and produced for Erykah on 'Mama's
Gun'. They met through N'Dambi who they both also worked
with.
All songs are original apart from 'The Way' which was a hit
originally written and recorded by Captain & Tenille,
although the versions could not be more distant and the song
has already captured the ears of the UK soul scene. (It was
also a feature of a US compilation called 'Soul
Sophisticated' involving fellow Expansion artists Kloud 9
and Maysa Leak).
'Free' has already been an 'album of the month' in Echoes
(April 2004) and is already being regarded as one of the
most substantial soul releases of the year.
Carmen wants to become a driving force in music for years to
come and is on her way to stardom.
