While most of the world donÆt know about singer
songwriter Jakob Olausson, he does have some
pretty influential fans. The most notable of these
is Ben Chasny (aka Six Organs of Admittance), and
within seconds of æMorning and SunriseÆ itÆs
obvious to hear why. OlaussonÆs charming homespun
psychedelic folk brings to mind the better
exponents of the scene, and manages to stand tall
even now in these folkless times. The whole record
sounds as if itÆs been recorded in a chilly log
cabin somewhere in the mountains, and OlaussonÆs
deeply singular songs have a solitude to them
thatÆs positively impossible to ignore. This is
beautiful escapism, and it feels like a privilege
to lose yourself in the twisted psychedelia.
