Backward Guitar Experiment (1:13) has been circulating
on tape for some time but it's a first time on CD for
this one. I don't know what it is about Third Stone but
they seem to have a fetish for backwards guitar takes.
Their previous release had two of these bizarre
offerings, Just Jimi, Record Plant, 19 January 1970.
Freedom (3:58) comes again from the Record Plant, this
time 15 May 1970, Previously on 'First Rays -- The
Sessions' and "Studio Haze', this is the version where
Jimi sings "You got my lead and I lost my head" on the
opening line and ends with a "Thank you very much"..
Lover Man (2:5O) is one of the early takes with a
snatch of 'Flight Of The Bumble Bee' thrown in for good
measure. Electric Lady, 20 July 1970. Previously
appeared, in inferior quality, on 'Studio Haze'.
Jungle 3am/Beginning (6:07) was partially on 'Masters
Masters' but this is the mast complete version yet
issued. Features Jimi Hendrix, guitar; Mitch Mitchell
drums; Billy Cox, bass; puma Sultan & Jerry Velez,
percussion. Hit Factory Studios, 6 September 1969.
Bleeding Heart (3:19). The first version of this on the
disc has just Jimi laying down his lead and rhythm
guitar at the Record Plant the sessions for which
spread from December 1969 into the spring of 1970.
Recently had a first release on 'Freakout Blues'.
The second Bleeding Heart (3:11) is a more or less
completed version of the first. Bass (most likely by
Jimi), drums and percussion having been added. 'Studio
Haze' again for this remix of the 'War Heroes' track.
Earth Blues (4:11) is an outtake (featuring extra
guitar parts) from 'Rainbow Bridge' featuring the Band
Of Gypsys with The Ronettes on backing vocals, Record
Plant, 19 December 1969 and 20 January 1970.
Ezy Rider Jam (9:38) which appeared on 'Electric
Gypsys' is next although quality is much better here.

Ezy Rider (4:14) was recorded 18 December 1969 at the
Record Plant and is most likely Jimi Hendrix, guitar,
vocals, bass; Buddy Miles, drums; Juma Sultan and/or
Jerry Velez, percussion. On 'Studio Haze' as was...
Room Full Of Mirrors (3:11) which is another outtake
from a track which appeared on 'Rainbow Bridge'. There
are two alternate mixes of this track circulating, this
is the one where the bass comes in much later on the
"Love comes shining over the mountains" verse. Band Of
Gypsys with Juma Sultan, percussion, Record Plant, 17
November 1969.
MLK/Cherokee Mist (6:17) is one of the original Band Of
Gypsys sessions used to construct the track on 'Crash
Landing'. Band Of Gypsys, once more, Record Plant,
December 1969. Take your pick from almost any studio
bootleg.
Valleys Of Neptune (4:33) comes from the
Hendrix/Cox/Mitchell line-up at Electric Lady, 15 May
1970. The 'Studio Haze' track again.
Once I Had A Woman (5:28) is the original take used to
produce the track on 'Midnight Lightning'. It's Band Of
Gypsys with the mysterious Don on harmonica (he's
getting more than his share of JP column inches of
late), Record Plant, 23 January 1970, Ends a bit
suddenly, to say the least, but that's because it res
on to the very end, unlike the fade on 'Freakout
Blues'.
Dolly Dagger (3:34) closes the disc and it's the
alternate mix overlaid with an alternate vocal track.
