▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ Notes And Comments About The Release ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
'Breakfast In Bed' was originally featured on a Dusty Springfield
album, 'Dusty In Memphis' in 1969 before Lorna Bennett turned out the
first reggae version in '73. Following other versions by Candy
mcKenzie and Sheila Hylton, it was released by UB40 on their own
label DEP International as catalogue bumber DEP 29. It hit the
British charts in the 18th June 1988 rising at its peak to number 6
and remaining in the chart for 11 weeks. It is from the album 'UB40'
which was also released in the UK in 1988. 'Breakfast In Bed' is the
second of two singles which the band released with guest vocalist
Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders after their cover of the Sonny and
Cher classic 'I Got You Babe' which topped the chart in August 1985.
UB40's relationship with Chrissie Hynde goes further back than that,
however, as the band were supporting The Pretenders on their British
tour when their first single, the double A-side 'King / Food for
Thought' was released in February 1980. UB40 credit Chrissie and The
Pretenders with giving them their first shot at the big time on
thought they have since more than equalled the success that the
latter had. The video for 'Breakfast in Bed', filmed in Birmingham,
features Ali Campbell popping round to Chrissie's house in a very
fetching bowler hat and a whispered, "Look at that weirdo in the
bowler hat."
Released 6/6/1988. Reached No 6 (UK)
