With his siblings, Tito Jackson, Michael Jackson, Jermaine
Jackson and Marlon Jackson, Jackie Jackson was part of the
famous 70s group, the Jackson 5. Jackie Jackson was the
co-lead singer along with his brother Michael Jackson, and
with his distinguishable high voice, he often led the other
singers. Born Sigmund Esco Jackson in 1951 in Gary,
Indiana, Jackie Jackson began recording and playing with
his brothers at an early age. He used to sneak his father's
guitar and practiced with his brothers every chance he got.
Between 1969 and 1970 the Jackson 5 quintet became a
household name on the Motown circuit, producing on the
Motown record label. Along with their harmony and rhythm,
the group choreographed their numbers. The quintet became a
singing and dancing sensation with number one hits "I Want
You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There",
They capitalized on their success with lunch boxes and a
Saturday morning cartoon show depicting the boys. The first
hit, "I Want You Back", soared instantly to number one and
sold more than two million copies.
Original Motown LP "Jackie Jackson" was the debut album
from Jackie Jackson, the eldest member of The Jackson 5.
Released in October 1973, the album suffered from a severe
lack of promotion, and as a result failed to chart in spite
of Jackie Jackson's immense success as a member of The
Jackson 5. It would be his only full length solo release
for more than 15 years, and his only solo album with
Motown. The single "Love Don't Wanna Leave" has gone on to
appear on several Jackson 5 compilations, however, the full
length LP ranks among the more obscure releases in the
Jackson family catalogue, and the other tracks only appear
on this record. The cover of Delfonics' "Didn't I (Blow
Your Mind This Time)" and the b-side opener "Do I Owe" are
notable for featuring background vocals from The Jackson 5.
