│║ MICHAEL KISKE has been retired from the metal ║ │
│║ scene years now, he had renowned his past, ║ │
│║ although he occasionally lends his voice for ║ │
│║ songs in metal albums, and his personal releases ║ │
│║ didnÆt have anything to do with his glorious ║ │
│║ Helloween days. This time we knew beforehand ║ │
│║ that he would sing some rearranged classic songs ║ │
│║ in a different form. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ So, I inserted the cd and after a violin ║ │
│║ intro of a known theme, the classic guitars ║ │
│║ started the rhythm and a voice from the past ║ │
│║ sang those lyrics that struck like lightning in ║ │
│║ the air: ôWhen I hold the key to open heavenÆs ║ │
│║ door, I will never make the mistake and give it ║ │
│║ backö. All of you who have recognized the song, ║ │
│║ by the time you will listen to the chorus you ║ │
│║ will be either crying or sunk into memories ║ │
│║ unable to react. Even played with just classic ║ │
│║ guitars and different instrument sounds instead ║ │
│║ of drums songs like ôYou Always Walk Aloneö, ôWe ║ │
│║ Got The Rightö, ôA Little Timeö and ôKids Of The ║ │
│║ Centuryö remain untouchable. Responsible for ║ │
│║ this shivering experience is KiskeÆs voice that ║ │
│║ sounds as crystal as it was 20 years ago when it ║ │
│║ could make stadiums full of people sing along ║ │
│║ with him. And even better, it is more mature and ║ │
│║ more worked, without losing the impossible range ║ │
│║ and the piercing tone that are still there. So, ║ │
│║ get ready to listen to songs from the two ║ │
│║ "Keepers...", "Pink bublles..." and "Chameleon" ║ │
│║ with just one new track that concludes the ║ │
│║ record in the same style. There is not much to ║ │
│║ say about the Helloween covers (they are real ║ │
│║ covers), every pumpkin fan is obliged to listen ║ │
│║ to them, even if you have never accepted ║ │
│║ "Chameleon" as a real album from the band - ║ │
│║ there are still a lot of songs that are surely ║ │
│║ worthy of your attention. Their arrangement ║ │
│║ includes violins, piano and trombones, while ║ │
│║ trumpet (not of Jericho) is used in ôWe Got The ║ │
│║ Rightö. If Kiske had released an album with just ║ │
│║ songs like the new one, I donÆt think many metal ║ │
│║ fans would bother to listen to it as it is close ║ │
│║ to the "Chameleon" aesthetic and exclusively ║ │
│║ accoustic, but since ôPast In Different Waysö ║ │
│║ gets off with Helloween tracks sung by the ║ │
│║ orginal voice, this release will not have the ║ │
│║ fate of its predecessors that were rejected from ║ │
│║ metal fans as metal was rejected by Kiske. ║ │
│║ This is a record I wouldnÆt like to rank. ║ │
│║ Kiske has repeatedly stated his detachment from ║ │
│║ metal - a fact that we have to respect - and ║ │
│║ this album is a half-way comeback in a sense. ║ │
│║ Many would say he took his word back hailing his ║ │
│║ 'return', while others will accuse him of ║ │
│║ abusing his past for financial reasons. As long ║ │
│║ as his relationship with metal is concered, our ║ │
│║ hope lies now in Timo Tolkki and his new band ║ │
│║ Renaissance Revolution in which Kiske will ║ │
│║ participate, but this is another story soon to ║ │
│║ come. For now, find this record and find the ║ │
│║ strength to listen to Helloween classics without ║ │
│║ suffering some kind of nostalgic breakdown. He ║ │
│║ is still THE VOICE. ║ │
