█ Discovery can appear in many ways, most commonly unexpectedly. Looking █
█ for something in particular seems more difficult to find an actual █
█ pleasing result, but it is the accidents that present the most rewarding █
█ experiences. On a darkening afternoon last fall, I was purposelessly █
█ sifting through YouTube videos of songs, letting them play, walking █
█ away, and letting it shuffle on to different videos. After a few songs, █
█ the most familiar, beautiful melody appeared. It had a vintage quality, █
█ and reminded me of memories with its lo-fi, shoegaze sound. I recognized █
█ this song somehow, and checked to see what it was. It was 'Dreamcatcher' █
█ by Sad Souls, the artist name of Michigan-based Tom Auty. I didn't know █
█ Sad Souls, in fact it wasn't familiar at all, and after searching for a █
█ few minutes online, I discovered that it was actually very new, and had █
█ only been released recently. After finding the entire album for free █
█ download/donation on the artists' Bandcamp page, I listened to it over █
█ and over. The entire album had the same steady, drifted feel, and could █
█ have been made 20 years ago, or 2 months ago. Making a beautiful album █
█ is easy for a lot of musicians, but creating something that is so █
█ effortlessly timeless is unusual, and special. █
