Jelinek returns to his Gesellschaft Zur
Emanzipation Des Samples alias for
another quietly subversive plunderphonic
excursion. The four tracks on
'Circulations' further the ideas laid
out on the first volume in 2009,
questioning the ethics, implications and
legalities of the sampling process by
way of four delicious plunderphonic
collages. They drift in the most opiated
manner between beachside scenes of
burbling polyrhythms, sweeping strings
and squawking exotica for 'Irrelevant
Sound Effects', to the dusky romance of
tickled organ and gauzy field recordings
on 'Besuch Aus Der Unterwelt' on the A-
side. 'Es Vermitteln: Lautsprecher'
strolls into a slightly more psychedelic
headspace, reversed chimes and murmuring
flora follow a trickling rhythm, the
sense of otherworldliness knowingly
permeated by what might be the sound of
a tape recorder playing in the
background, before 'Moderne Musik 1965-
1985' plays canny concrΦte games with
frayed tape loops and submerged
acousmatic sources.
