What was in the past an instrumental side project
comprised of Mathieu Charbonneau (The Luyas) and
Simon Trottier (Timber Timbre) bloomed into the
quartet form with the addition of Olivier Fairfield
(FET. NAT) on drums and Charbonneau's brother
Philippe (JÆenvoie) on double bass. While the
Ferriswheel debut was dressed with the intimacy of
folk music, this new LP, Un peu au Nord et sans
distorsion ("A Bit North and Without Distortion"),
creates luscious chamber pop, full of noir
cinema-like atmospheres, key changes and terrific
melodies, with added textures from Belle
Orchestre's Pietro Amato on the French horn and
Montreal violinist Joshua Zubot. Clocking in at a
little over 27 minutes, Un peu au Nord rewards
exponentially with every listen and begs you to
make it your soundtrack for rainy December days.
