What can i say.. well you better read this
review.. it tells everything about this AWESOME
album!.
Wow, wow, wowàif Folk Punk then like this! These
are the words that crossed my mind when I listened
to No Offence, the new record of the relatively
unknown slowenic Folk Punk Band Happy OlÆ Mc
Weasel for the first time. No Offence from the
first note has everything you can ask for as a fan
of this kind of music. Hard riffs, fast tracks,
all instruments that this kind of music requires
and a rough and unaffected singing. Right from the
first tone, these guys rock it, but at the same
time, Happy OlÆ McWeasel are as varied as you can
possibly be in the scene.
Basically, one word would be sufficient for his
review: ingenious! ingenious, because well
produced, ingenious, because of each and every
song, ingenious because of the artwork of the cd û
all together a very well done album. The very
interesting cover promises something great and the
musical content can definitely keep this promise.
Happy OlÆ Mc Weasel succeeded in creating a strong
album, which û in contrast to many other albums of
the scene û has absolutely no deficiency, but is
bursting of strength. Again and again, I wish,
that bands find the right mixture of traditionals
and own songs on their records. With this piece of
art, this wish came true. With Irish Rover,
Drunken Sailor, Foggy Dew and Dany Boy, the
traditional site was realised, the other six songs
û all of them in perfect manner of modern Folk
Punk û are written by these seven roughnecks. A
track like Sail away convinces in the same way
like Hairy Grizzly, Still in the league or Murphys
Law. Sometimes slow, sometimes fast û but always
with melody and rhythm. Beating guitars, a lively
banjo, the rough vocals û everything comes
together in perfect symbiosis.
The guys play their music with an attitude that
you might think, they are doing this for twenty
years. With this record, Happy OlÆ Mc Weasel are
in good company with stunning bands which can
hopefully meet at eye level with stars of the
scene like Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly in
the near future. The album is put in scene by the
sound perfectly and the talent of every single
musician is obvious. I think in the future we can
expect some other big things from Happy OlÆ Mc
Weasel. With the hope and expectation for these
future events, I must recommend to everbody to buy
this piece of art. Full score!
