Rene & Angela was the early-80s soul duo from Los Angeles
that released four albums between 1980 and 1986. Before
forming in 1977, Rene Moore - the brother of Rufus' Bobby
Watson - played with the Brothers Johnson; Angela Winbush
had sung backup vocals for Dolly Parton, Lenny Williams,
Stevie Wonder and Jean Carn. Rene & Angela had their first
R&B hit for Capitol Records in 1980 and proceeded to have
seven other hits over the next three years. In 1985, the
duo switched to Mercury, where they had the number one R&B
hit "Save Your Love (For #1)" with their first single from
the album "Street Called Desire". Over the next year, the
group had three other Top Ten hits - including the number
one R&B single "Your Smile" and the number two "You Don't
Have to Cry" - before pursuing solo careers in the mid-80s.
"Rise" from 1983 was Rene & Angela's third album release on
Capitol Records and is full of classic sounding 80s Soul
and R&B including the second single "Keep Runnin". "Rise"
reached the #33 position in the US R&B charts shortly after
its release. "Bangin' The Boogie", the self-penned first
single with its rapid rhythm and blaring horns, mirrored
the success of the album also gaining the R&B #33 spot. "My
First Love" was the single that really secured Rene &
Angela a large fan base, this terrific ballad secured them
the R&B #12. This rise in attention for Rene & Angela led
to their follow up becoming a platinum selling album
Released in deluxe super jewel cases, remastered with bonus
tracks "Rise" is a must for all soul, R&B and disco fans.
