Release Notes:
Dead Combo was born in 2003. After a Howe Gelb solo concert, when T≤ Trips asked
Pedro Gonτalves for a ride to Bairro Alto. Since none had a car at the time,
they walked and talked about music. T≤ Trips invited Pedro to record ôParedes
Ambienceö in the compilation CD ôMovimentos PerpΘtuos û M·sica para Carlos
Paredesö. This was the beginning of the band that has earned such awards as
Record of the Decade and several Record of the Year.
They incarnate two characters that could have come from a dark comic book: a
caretaker and a gangster.
ôVol.1? was recorded and published in 2004 and nominated Album of the year by
the influential newspaper ôP·blicoö. The track ôRumberoö was also selected by
the late Charlie Gillett (BBC Radio) to be included in his compilation CD ôThe
Sound of the World û 2005ö and nominated the album as one of the best of the
year. Gillett also nominated ôVol.2 û Quando a Alma Nπo Θ Pequenaö, the groupÆs
second studio album, as record of the month in November 2006. Again the record
was awarded record of the Year.
ôLusitΓnia Playboysö was the bandÆs third studio album and a major production,
compared to the two previous albums. Released in 2008 It included such notable
guests as Howe Gelb, Kid Congo Powers, Carlos Bica, Alexandre Frazπo and many
more. The record also received the Record of the Year award by several
publications. It was awarded ôRecord of the Decadeö by newspaper Expresso.
In 2009 they released their first live album ôLive Hot Clubeö recorded at the
mythical Jazz club Hot Clube de Portugal. The record featured Alexandre Frazπo
on drums.
Dead Combo & Royal Orquestra das Caveiras, the live DVD released in 2010 takes
the groupÆs music to another level with the help of the orchestra composed of a
piano player, drums and a three horn section.
Released in 2011 ôLisboa Mulataö is the bandÆs latest studio album. Featuring
Marc Ribot, CamanΘ, SΘrgio Godinho and Alexandre Frazπo, itÆs eleven tracks
drink from the Cape VerdeÆs morna, South American deserts to a portuguese
tavern.
