Part of the X Avant Music Festival VI at the ever-reliable Music
     Gallery.

     A short review from cokemachineglow.com:

On the surface, Tim Hecker's approach wasn't radically different:
most of the tracks were pieces from his recent Ravedeath, 1972,
not appreciably different in arrangement, even if he processed
them in real time from the church's pipe organ. And yet the
difference in effect was staggering: as if being plunged into
darkness with only sound either makes or breaks a set (I didnÆt
even have the benefit of seeing Hecker play, who was confined to
the other side of the venue by the organ). It may have completely
altered my opinion on that album, which I previously thought paled
in comparison to Harmony in Ultraviolet (2006) or Haunt Me, Haunt
Me, Do It Again (2001), though I may never listen to that album on
my shitty speakers ever again having witnessed it transformed
through a large space. It's that sound of endlessly cycling
sustained tones that reaches back into the pipe organ's history,
from sacred music to silent cinema, both rooted in collective
experience and transference. That the darkened theatre pushed the
images to the inside of the eyelids was here, miraculously, a
     blessing.

     And another, excerpted from exclaim.ca:

Finally, it was Tim Hecker's turn to reveal his sonic ambitions.
Performing to a sold-out crowd, the audience caught a glimpse of
the church's pipe organ hooked into various electronics before
Hecker took a seat in front of the instrument and all lights went
dark. There are few musicians whose music is as well suited to a
church organ as Hecker's, something he proved by performing the
majority of his Polaris Music Prize long-listed album Ravedeath,
1972 on the normally god-praising instrument at soul-shaking
volumes. And the low-end drive of the organ pedals was a force to
be reckoned with, shaking the foundations of the church with
clatters of vibrations from loose materials.

While fans of Hecker were undoubtedly pleased with his rather
aggressive organ tones, the restless first-time listener may have
found his set almost too uniform, as all tracks blended into one
another. However, X Avant's goals are hardly centred on the
     impatient demographic.
