Formed in 2002, the members of Dreams in Fear set out to do
something that most Hard Rock / Metal bands are not willing
to take part of, creating music that is centered around
emotions, not styles or genres. With influences ranging
from Pop, Rock, Metal, Punk and everything in between, they
quickly become favorites everywhere the road leads them.
Dreams in Fear's music is hard to define. Aggressive
Melodic Hard Rock Heavy Metal sounds silly but it seems to
fit their mold. Fans of Evanescence, Metallica and Slipknot
will love Dreams in Fear. Lead vocalist Shelly Metz has a
range unique from most female fronted bands. From a death
metal growl to a punchy hard rock style reminiscent of Pat
Benatar to the emotional melody of Amy Lee, Shelly handles
it all in stride. Lead Guitarist/Songwriter Johnny Kaufman
lays down crunchy, catchy guitar riffs and emotionally
charged chord changes. Johnny spices it up with a touch of
fluid fills and a dash of guitar hero solos. Johnny's
guitar riffs are backed solidly by Rhythm Guitarist Eric
Willhide and Bassist Adam Lefever. Holding it all together
is Drummer Brian Bohrer pounding the skins with passion and
skill. No matter if they are performing with Death Metal or
Pop Rock bands, people gravitate towards Dreams in Fear
because they have something to offer to everyone. They have
shared stages with Kittie, Otep, The Misfits, Crisis,
Suicide City, Hansel und Gretel and The Genitorturers to
name a few.
"this was never real" is a compilation of songs that span
Dreams in Fear's 10 year (2002 - 2012) career, all
re-recorded or recorded for the first time. Their first
ever song "Soul Drain" (2002) is a ballad moving from quiet
to intense. The new songs "Luna", "Rebirth of Denial" and
"Shine" showcase the band's heavy metal roots and pop rock
sensibilities. The CD has tracks that have been performed
live over the years but never had studio treatment such as
show closing thrashers "Abscence of Honor" and "The
Whipping Post", and an album highlight, the grandiose "A
Sorrow's End". Other tracks include pop rock smash
"Depths", hard rocker "Damaged", metal anthem "The Scars
Left Behind", strange but hooky "Gutter" and the sweet
lullaby of "Solitude". For fans of intense, unique hard
rock this album is a must!
