Compa has been a name on everyone's lips. Playing with bassweight
and meditative minimalism, the producer and deejay has been
cutting dubs of his most precious work and pushing the creme of
the crop for vinyl release only. His latest on Area Recordings has
only been another stepping stone for his imminent inclusion in
everyone's playlist.
For this 12", it's all about Security. Tense, reverberant
atmosphere with punchy percussive bongos louder than your heart
pounding as you lay quietly. Singing guitar-like pads color the
background and warm your blood in a state of paranoia. A stab of
distortion rings out like the strobe of an alarm, awash in reverb.
Aptly named and accurately built, the tune's barebones
construction provides an energy that moves in a stealth-like
evasive fashion.
The flipside Cold Weather picks up the pace -- and appropriately.
Colorful pads ping-pong in the most frozen of atmosphere's Compa
has crafted, as if inside an arctic cavern. Formant distortion
growls like the heavy breath of Jack Frost lurking in the shadows.
