│║ I somehow missed WrathbladeÆs 7ö back in 2006, ║ │
│║ but last yearÆs demo gave my ears a thoroughly ║ │
│║ enjoyable bashing so I was looking forward to ║ │
│║ this their debut full length with significant ║ │
│║ anticipation. Well here it is and it is ║ │
│║ everything the doctor ordered and exactly what I ║ │
│║ was hoping for. Everything I loved about the ║ │
│║ demo, from the pure metallic fury of the assault ║ │
│║ to the quirky, just a bit different character ║ │
│║ (think Slough Feg and Brocas Helm) is there, ║ │
│║ just bolstered by a production with some serious ║ │
│║ balls. ôGod-Defying Typhoeusö gallops forward in ║ │
│║ metal glory, steel shod hooves crushing bone, ║ │
│║ while weaving and writhing guitars flay flesh. ║ │
│║ Catch your breath during the short melodic intro ║ │
│║ to ôDolorus Shockö because those guitars ║ │
│║ suddenly swarming about your ears like angry ║ │
│║ hornets herald another crushing onslaught. Drums ║ │
│║ speed thunderously forward carving a path like ║ │
│║ spiked chariot wheels, while the vocals sound ║ │
│║ like Mike Scalzi reborn as an ancient Greek ║ │
│║ warrior while possessed by the spirit of a ║ │
│║ Viking berserker. Was that intro kind of short ║ │
│║ and is this description getting a bit colorful ║ │
│║ and imagery laden? If so good, because this is ║ │
│║ one of those albums that will grab the listener ║ │
│║ immediately by the neck and hurl them into its ║ │
│║ story.s ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ôIn Metal We Trustö is more of the same in a ║ │
│║ shorter form with a bit of a Celtic swagger to ║ │
│║ some of its sections. ôDream Trap (Doomopolis ║ │
│║ Pt. I) strides forth with an appropriately doomy ║ │
│║ flavor, as it begins a pulverizing eight minute ║ │
│║ journey of punishing heaviness featuring well ║ │
│║ placed alterations in the vocals, which range ║ │
│║ from spoken word to growl to the more frequent ║ │
│║ powerful melodic bravado found on most of this ║ │
│║ disc, and some really nice and inventive bass ║ │
│║ work. Next up are ôReins of Doom (God of War Pt. ║ │
│║ I)ö and ôFlee To Freedomö, both making welcome ║ │
│║ returns from the demo and allowed more room to ║ │
│║ flex their substantial metal muscle by the ║ │
│║ sterling production here. ôSigns of Wrathö ║ │
│║ builds with epic intensity into a beast of a ║ │
│║ song that is just everything that heavy metal ║ │
│║ should be. ôFor Youö wraps things up with ║ │
│║ Promethian strength and brooding and ominous ║ │
│║ atmosphere. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ As the old phrase goes, this is ôall killer, no ║ │
│║ fillerö not just one of the best metal albums of ║ │
│║ this year, but one of the best true metal albums ║ │
│║ of the past decade, this is seriously good ║ │
│║ stuff. The performances are all great with one ║ │
│║ of the best twin guitar teams going, unique and ║ │
│║ heroic vocals, cannonic drums and some seriously ║ │
│║ top shelf bass playing. The song writing is ║ │
│║ unwaveringly very high quality and the ║ │
│║ production is damn near perfect to my earsàan ║ │
│║ absolutely mandatory purchase. ║ │
