│║ PANDAEMONIUM rose from the ashes of the ║ │
│║ thrashers MAD FAITH back in 1995, turning ║ │
│║ towards the Epic Power Metal sound. Although ║ │
│║ they exist for 17 years now they only have two ║ │
│║ demos and three full length albums (this ║ │
│║ included) under their belt. There were several ║ │
│║ reasons for this: they had to wait three years ║ │
│║ before signing with a record company, they ║ │
│║ underwent many lineup changes during the years ║ │
│║ and the record company dealt with some problems. ║ │
│║ But the band (primarily because of the singer ║ │
│║ Daniel Reda, the only original member) didnÆt ║ │
│║ call it a day and they kept on going, playing ║ │
│║ live and constantly searching for new members. ║ │
│║ And that persistence led them to their third ║ │
│║ studio album, ôThe Last Prayerö, released seven ║ │
│║ years after their previous one. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The thing that I liked in this album is that it ║ │
│║ reminded me of older albums of Italian bands, ║ │
│║ like RHAPSODY, DOMINE and HEIMDALL. Well, not ║ │
│║ the music per se, but the great epic power ║ │
│║ atmosphere that all those Italian bands are ║ │
│║ known for. The album has everything: fast parts, ║ │
│║ slower, mid tempo breaks and power ballads while ║ │
│║ there are time where everything coexist in a ║ │
│║ single song. The albumÆs opener, ôAlone In The ║ │
│║ Darkö, features an acoustic intro before it ║ │
│║ turns into a classic up tempo Power Metal song; ║ │
│║ ôGo Your Own Wayö is slow has a very nice ║ │
│║ outburst, with double bass, that rocks things ║ │
│║ up; and ôTodayö begins as a ballad, before it ║ │
│║ turns mid tempo and then back to fast again. But ║ │
│║ the thing that dominates everything is melody! ║ │
│║ ôThe Last Prayerö is full of guitar and ║ │
│║ keyboards melodies enhanced by the orchestral ║ │
│║ arrangements and RedaÆs voice. He is doing a ║ │
│║ good job and apart from his standard vocals, he ║ │
│║ is also using tenor-like and high pitched ones, ║ │
│║ probably to play the evil character. I have to ║ │
│║ say that I didnÆt quite like those high pitched ║ │
│║ vocals and it would be better if they were ║ │
│║ actually high pitched growls but this is a ║ │
│║ matter of personal taste. Steve Volta is doing a ║ │
│║ great job in the guitar, delivering some really ║ │
│║ nice riffs and leads. Before wrapping this ║ │
│║ review up I have to comment on ôThe White ║ │
│║ Voicesö: this is a great song with nice clean ║ │
│║ guitar riff that also appears in the middle of ║ │
│║ the song making it quite emotional. And of ║ │
│║ course itÆs not only the riff that makes the ║ │
│║ song great, itÆs everything: the melodies, the ║ │
│║ chorus, the orchestration, the leads, the ║ │
│║ alternation of vocals, the atmosphere. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ôThe Last Prayerö is not a jaw dropping album ║ │
│║ that breaks new grounds. But it is comprised of ║ │
│║ well-written and well played songs and has a ║ │
│║ very nice Epic atmosphere that fits perfectly ║ │
│║ the Power Metal needs of the fans of this genre. ║ │
