Considered by the French magazine Les Inrockuptibles one of the bands to follow
in 2012 and reviewed by the Dutch magazine Heaven Magazine as one of the most
interesting and original Americana groups around the European continent, the
Portuguese a Jigsaw has released in 2011 their latest album Drunken Sailors &
Happy Pirates, the follow up to the hailed second album Like The Wolf (2009).
Named after the Belgium band dEUS song ôJigsaw Youö, this indie folk oriented
band, often compared with the likes of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits is
made up of three multi-instrumentalists musicians. Joao Rui, Susana Ribeiro and
Jorri.
In 2007 they released a concept album called Letters From The Boatman. A handful
of guests, including some of the most prominent musicians of the Portuguese
scene, took part of this project. The album climbed the charts on national
radios, it was considered one of the best of the year and the band was also
reviewed as one of the best live acts.
As to the second album, they decided to take matter into their own hands and
gather some of the instruments they had met along the way. The result was a
beautifully textured album with detailed arrangements. Like the Wolf is a return
to the concept album format. The record has two mesmerizing duets with ArizonaÆs
Becky Lee Walters and Joao Rui. Like The Wolf was considered by the European
media as an ôirresistibleö, a ôcompulsoryö and an ôaddictiveö album. Many say it
was the best album of the year 2009.
In February of 2010 they released the deluxe edition Like The Wolf Uncut and
began their ôLike The Wolf European Tourö that took them to 12 countries, such
as France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Slovenia, Poland, United Kingdom,
Austria, Germany, Spain, etc. Still in 2010, the duet ôReturn to Meö featuring
Becky Lee Walters received an honorable mention from the International
Songwriting Competition (USA/2009) and of the Think Tank (Italy).
This amazing trio returned with their much anticipated third album ôDrunken
Sailors & Happy Piratesö released November of 2011. With the first edition sold
out in less than two months and highlighted on the lists of best albums of 2011,
they managed to create an historic gathering of both the national radios of
Portugal and Spain (Antena 3 and Radio 3) around their music.
In February of 2012 they begin the European tour to promote their new album with
the support of Radio 3 and Antena 3 as well of Ruta 66 and the prestigious
Gibson Guitars.
This European Tour coincides with the second edition of Drunken Sailors & Happy
Pirates throughout the rest of Europe. With the raving comments that this band
is getting both as a studio band and as a mesmerizing live act, you will not
want to lose sight of this trio.
