│║ While I wasn't too fond of their first album, I ║ │
│║ loved their second.. Though on neither of these, ║ │
│║ Conquest really showed that much potential I ║ │
│║ thought they were "just another power metal band ║ │
│║ to listen to just because they're power metal". ║ │
│║ Now we have Empire, and I must say, this album ║ │
│║ impressed me greatly. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ What is there to expect? Well, to be honest. Not ║ │
│║ much, this is just your every day standard euro ║ │
│║ power metal, however what makes this band stand ║ │
│║ out is their incredible sense of melody. These ║ │
│║ guys definitely know how to write them. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ W. Angel did an excellent job on vocals and ║ │
│║ guitars, you'll find standard power metal riffs ║ │
│║ with lots of tremolo picking which can be ║ │
│║ considered generic, but then he pulls out one of ║ │
│║ his amazing solos or melodies and you just end ║ │
│║ up forgetting all about the genericness of his ║ │
│║ riffs. His vocals are crystal clear and high ║ │
│║ pitched, not falsetto high pitched, but high for ║ │
│║ a man, which is not uncommon in power metal of ║ │
│║ this kind. His pronunciation is nearly ║ │
│║ impeccable, if you hate accents, this guy ║ │
│║ probably won't bother you. Unlike the efforts of ║ │
│║ the previous vocalist on Frozen Sky, he really ║ │
│║ puts his soul into it, and never ends up ║ │
│║ sounding bored, even on slower parts he's there ║ │
│║ with his lively vocals. I'm glad he picked up ║ │
│║ vocals for this one, because he is definitely ║ │
│║ doing a much better job than the previous one. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Moving on to the keyboard section, for most part ║ │
│║ the keyboards are in the back, however it does ║ │
│║ occur often that a keyboard melody comes ║ │
│║ through, and they are, once again, excellent. In ║ │
│║ the song "In Begins From Your Heart" you can ║ │
│║ hear them in a folkish style, while in "Prisoner ║ │
│║ of The Universe" they'll take on a more.. cosmic ║ │
│║ approach, while in the balled "When The Skies ║ │
│║ Fall" they take on a piano approach. Plenty of ║ │
│║ variation can be found. Sadly there are no ║ │
│║ shredding keyboard solos, but I don't think this ║ │
│║ band needs it. This band's strength lies in the ║ │
│║ great solo and melody work, not in being the ║ │
│║ fastest one can be. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ As for the drums and bass.. There isn't much I ║ │
│║ can say, except that they are nothing special, ║ │
│║ the bass usually follows the guitar or is ║ │
│║ completely inaudible, while the drums are ║ │
│║ usually the same old. That's not to say these ║ │
│║ guys are bad at their instruments, they ║ │
│║ certainly have their moments, but it's quite ║ │
│║ obvious the guitars and keyboard are in the ║ │
│║ spotlight here. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Overall, this is just an excellent album. Does ║ │
│║ it do anything new for the genre? No, this is ║ │
│║ just standard power metal, but its strength lies ║ │
│║ in the melodies, which are sublime. The ║ │
│║ highlights of this album would be "It Begins ║ │
│║ From Your Heart", "Far Beyond" and "We Are The ║ │
│║ Ones". But I find every track to be good in its ║ │
│║ own right, there are no bad tracks here. ║ │
